I’ll Find My Way Back To You
Lyin’ next to you
Wishing I could disappear…
Bette looked at Tina’s back, trying to assess whether she was asleep yet, she desperately needed fresh air and time to think.
Let you fall asleep
And vanish out into thin air.
She would wait until Tina fell asleep. She had to. Not in front of Tina.
It’s the elephant in the room
And we pretend that we don’t see it.
Bette got up slowly and carefully from the bed, she walked to the French doors and out onto the back of the house, settling on a lounge chair before letting her shoulders drop.
“Fuck!” Bette almost shouted. It had been almost a week since they had learnt of Tina’s miscarriage and things were bad. Tina had been silent and reclusive all week, either crying all day or going about the house like a zombie.
No one mentioned their baby, no one at all, but it was always there, unspoken.
It’s the avalanche that looms above our heads.
And we don’t believe it.
A week. Their baby boy was gone. Bette could hardly believe it and during the first few days after, she thought she had heard Tina talking to him as she rubbed her stomach, like she used to do. She was worried for not just Tina’s sanity but her own as well. It was just so unreal, she would never have guessed that this would have happened.
Tryin’ to be perfect
Tryin’ not to let you down…
She had somehow controlled her emotions in front of Tina, trying not to add to Tina’s pain. She knew she had to be strong for them right now. So she had taken to crying at work or out here whenever Tina was asleep.
Honesty is honestly the hardest thing for me right now…yeah
while the floors underneath our feet are crumbling
The walls we built together tumblin’
She knew she should talk to one of their friends, heck, she should be talking to Tina. But Tina was so lost right now, she was just barely functioning. Bette was functioning, but nowhere near her usual standards. Thankfully, James was holding the fort at work, helping her out as much as he could.
I still stand here holdin’ up the roof
Cause it’s easier than telling the truth.
