“What made you unhappy about what you saw? Were you able to put your finger on it?”
Was I able to put my finger on it? Maybe a little but it mainly came down to being alone. “I woke up in a hospital bed alone. I mean ….I know I was supposed to be in the hospital bed alone…that’s kind of a given. It was more than that… I was alone for the most part other than my sister Kit and my best friend Al. All those people who were in my past weren’t there. My fellow officers drifted away when they found out I wasn’t going to die. There was no one there that I truly cared about and who cared about me and that was because I haven’t let people get close to me. I haven’t really done relationships and for the first time in my life, I felt like I was missing something.”
“When was the last serious romantic relationship that you had?”
“Umm….too long ago to even remember.”
“Do you remember why it ended?”
“Because I didn’t like being tied down in a relationship. We both discovered that we were better off as friends.”
“Are you still friends? Was that person there for you at all?”
“Yes, we’re still friends. Al is the last person I was in a relationship with and is now my best friend. At times, since the incident, she’s been around too much. Almost smothering but she means well so I just accept it. She was scared that I was depressed and thought that I needed her to be there and since I do love her company, it wasn’t too hard. We went out for dinner the other night. It was the first time since everything happened. She was thrilled.”
“So are you a lesbian?”
“I thought that would have been in my file. Yes, I am. Is that a problem?”
“No, it’s not a problem at all. I just didn’t want to assume anything.” Her voice was turning me on so much I was having trouble concentrating on what she was saying.
“I’m sorry, could you repeat that?”
“You keep referring to the shooting as the incident. Is that how you think of it?”
“To be honest, I try not to think about it. It seems easier to say the incident. My father, when we talk, won’t refer to what happened as a shooting so I think it’s just entered my vocabulary because of that. When he asks anything about it, he asks about the incident. That’s just him though. Don’t confuse the truth when it can so blatantly be covered up. Trust me, I’m well aware that I was shot.”

Glad Bette finally opened up though she obviously has her trademark control issue to deal with. Hope she’ll muster the guts to call Tina’s service number. I still don’t know how they’ll hook up without violating any ethical standards. Thanks for the rapid-fire posting, NAG! Have a great week… :>
Loving the frequent posts because your story is simply wonderful! Tina is getting herself in deep ethically. She needs to transfer Bette’s case if she is having feelings for her – even if she doesn’t pursue a relationship. I hope she realizes this. Maybe the universe will intervene and the two will see each other at a local bar over the weekend. I hope you are able to post soon. I feel withdrawal set in almost as soon as I read the last line of your postings! By the way, I really like the font on this chapter.
So, Bette’s talking to Tina because she wants to get to know her…better. Tina wants to refer her to another Dr. so she CAN get to know Bette better. What an interesting dilemma and one I’m sure you’ll treat us to in future chapters. Love your stuff NAG!

Hi there… well i just read all 8 chapters… and let me say first i wish they never ended… so happy she is finally opening up and talking… love the relationship tina has with shane… and alice is alice… i loved the way shane was willing to “BREAK” tina in… i also wonder if they all know each other… i have to think alice knows shane… every one knows shane… and since tina did’t say bette’s name… i have a feeling they all know each other… so when is shane taking tina out again… this way bette and tina will meet… loving this story… you have 2 winners going on… love both of your stories… PPS
Holy cow, bette really did talk! i was wondering if she was going grunt yes or no to tina’s questions… the very fact that she gave up control by allowing tina to lead the session was a big step, police always have to be in control or quickly gain control. was wondering if bette is thinking about doing something in the art field going back to painting and showing her work, or even teaching since she has a masters for it….i’m with amanda somehow i think they are all know each and tina will figure this out if she goes out more with shane. update when you have time… no rushing from me! :)
