    I Need You Here -12

"Right," Tina said skeptically, watching the waitress leave. In New York she’d been the target of many free drinks, and luckily her two assistants drank alcohol as if it was water.

Bette watched Tina. "You gonna drink that?"

"No." Tina shook her head. "I’ve learned that lesson."

"More for me." Bette said, taking the drink and finishing it quickly.

"Careful, there’s alcohol in that." Tina warned.

"Kind of the point." Bette laughed, before lifting her martini. "Here’s to you, Tina Kennard."

    "You’re drunk." Tina noted.

"Abso-*****-lutely." Bette agreed. She grinned. "Here’s to you, too, Daddy Dearest."

Tina watched warily as Bette finished the martini in inhuman speed. Then she summoned the waitress. "One more!"

    "Bette, you know, maybe —"

"So what was the bet?" Bette asked.

    Tina froze.

"Come on, T. We were getting along so well," Bette prodded.

"I had to listen to a song."

    "And–?" Bette asked, leaning forward.

"And if I thought of you I had to go see you."

"Huh." Bette sat back. "What song?"

    "Um…"

    "Tinaaa," Bette drawled. "What song."

    "You don’t know it."

    "Try me."

    "Actually…"

Bette looked up as the waitress brought a fresh martini. "Hey, do you take song requests?"

    "Bette." Tina said sharply.

"See, if you just told me the song title, we wouldn’t have to be so public about it," Bette insisted.

"I promise to play the song to you in the car." Tina told her.

Bette smiled sweetly at the waitress. "Check, please."

Tina wondered how the ***** she got herself into this mess.

Oh, right. She wore those damn earrings eight years ago.

The drinks done and paid for, Bette took Tina’s hand and pulled her to her rental car. For someone who was clearly drunk, Bette was still eighty percent sure-footed, and frighteningly determined.

Back in the close quarters of the BMW, Bette turned to Tina. "What’s the song?"

Tina sighed, and checked the cd in the cd changer. Finding the right track number, she played the song.

Bette made a face. "Oh, Jesus Christ, T, are we going to have to listen to this ***** music all the way through?"

"You wanted to hear the song," Tina pointed out, ignoring the rudeness Bette could demonstrate when hammered.

    1. Very nice. Glad Tina’s taking Bette’s shit, as well as giving back what she’s getting. Now, if only Bette can find Bette, there might be a chance.

    2. i’m glad tina’s able to put up with bette…she’s a very loyal wife…i’m glad they’re on their way to reconcile…thanks for the quick update, can’t wait for another one.

    4. Good for Tina managing to get thru all this shit. Bette has an excuse her dad died she doesn’t know where she stands with Tina but wants her desparately. But being Tina here is not easy. Great writing looking forward to more.

    5. Hey Tiff,
I am liking this assertive Tina. She really has got her professional life sorted. And now trying to solve and move on from all the personal ones.
I do like your writing styles. The characters are remaining true to themselves while being influenced by those they trust.
Now Bette just needs to realise that Tina is there for her; now and always. Then maybe, she can accept what has happened, get some closure and then move forward.
Much anticipation in to how this story will progress.
      Please post soon.
      A Fan.

    6. hmm..at least when bette drinks she’s with Tina. kept her under control. great choice of song.Keep this going..am really enjoyin readin it.

    7. I love the use of the words in the song to convey Tina’s thoughts and feelings. I too enjoy using music as a means of expression for my feelings….I’m definitely no songfic hater. Keep up the good work. I’d love to see you put some stress on the situation, like making Tina have to leave or something. Anything that will make them step up and settle their issues and stop ‘pussy footing’ around them.
