I Fell In Love With A Straight Girl Chp 10

I nodded in agreement, and led them to the table. I ran my hair through my fingers, I knew what had happen and it was all my fault.
“She just moved here, She was doing some gigs at small art shows, but other then that I was her only friend.” I stared at the cracks in the table, I was trying to keep from shaking.
“Do you know of anyone who would want to harm her?” Officer Granger asked.
I paused for a moment, then closed my eyes out of shame.
“Yes, but it’s nothing that Carmen did.” I sighed, and prepared myself to tell them everything. “There’s this woman, named Cherrie Jaffie. I was once romantically involved with her. I was underaged, and we were having an affair. After awhile, I wanted out, but she treating me if I left. So I reported her.” My story was vague in detailed and rehearse, as if I was reading a story from the newspaper, not telling one from my own life.
“After I reported her she lost her job, her husband, children, and her house. She went to jail but got out after two years.”
“Did you ever try to contact her?” Officer Curry asked
“No, but Saturday morning, I went for a bike ride, and I stopped at my favorite place, it’s uh close to  Mount Bonnell.” He wrote down the name and I continued “I was just enjoying the view, and out of nowhere Cherrie approached me.  She told me that she saw me take Carmen up there. And that’s why Carmen spent the night. Her Dad was out of town and I wanted her to be safe.” I was trying so hard to hold back my tears. I had let down Carmen.
“So you believe Cherrie has something to do with her disappearance.”
    I nodded in agreement “Completely.”
The officers wrote down some more infomation, took my full name. Then started to leave.
“Thank you for your time Ms. McCutcheon,” They nodded at Tina, Bette and Alice.” We will let you know if anything else turns up.” Then walked out the door.
“Turns up dead” The voice in my mind yelled at me. I felt like puking.
“Shane.” Bette asked. “Shane, what do you want to do?”
“They aren’t going to do shit” I said then walked out the door. I reached in to my pocket and grabbed my cigarettes and quickly lit one. “Fuck you Cherrie.” I mumbled to myself.
My friends met me on the pouch. Each of them stricken with fear.
“Bette, you know the police, they aren’t really going to do anything until a week from now, they are just going to “gather the facts.” I took a drag of my cigarette. “I’m not going to wait for a phone call telling me that she’s dead.”
“Where do you think Cherrie is?” Alice asked.
“If you think she knew, wouldn’t she have told the police?” Bette butted in.
“She could be anywhere, I haven’t seen her two years.” I paused and thought more about it. “ At Mount Bonnell,  it seemed like she had been there waiting for me, she was there when I brought Carmen up there which was a few weeks ago.”
“So are you saying that she would check it out?” Alice suggested,
    “Yeah.” I answered
“I really think we should just wait for the police.” Bette augured.
“And just wait on our asses?” Tina chimed in “Bette, it’s obvious this isn’t something small, I remember how Cherrie can be, and Shane knows  more then any of us what she is capable of. We need to start looking for her.”
Bette looked shocked at her wife’s aggression, and refrained from asking anything else.
“Alice, you and Shane go to Mount Bonnell, I’ll check the homeless areas downtown, see if I can find anything out about Cherrie.” Tina order.
“Wait,” Bette said. “I-I’ll look up her records, I’ll call James and see what he can do with hacking into the prisons database. Surely they just didn’t let a sex offender walk out of jail, she had to have some place to go, and be registered.”
We all agreed on our new plan and set off, in hopes to find Carmen.
Tina pulled me into a hug “We’re going to find her Shane.” she said before getting her car.  I held back my tears and hoped that we would find the innocent woman who’s only fault was getting to know me.
