    The rescue demonstration …

     

    “I love you sweetheart.  I’ll see you at home tonight.”  Bette kisses her quickly on the cheek and heads back to the helicopter.

     

     

     

    Tina, Dana and all the kids leave the base and head back to school to end their day.  The kids are so excited about all they have seen that it is impossible to keep them quiet on the ride back.

     

     

     

    Bette and Shane are cleaning up the chopper.  Both are very quiet, choosing not to speak about what happened earlier.  As Bette returns the rescue dummy and some equipment to the storage room, she notices a pool of liquid on the ground near the building.  She is looking at it, trying to determine what it is as Shane arrives.

     

    “What are you looking at?” Shane asks her.

     

    “I’m not sure.  It doesn’t appear to be leaking from anywhere.”

     

    Shane leans closer and sniffs.  Then she runs her fingertips through it.

     

    “What are you doing Shane?”

     

    “We have a problem here Bette.”

     

    “What?”

     

    “This,” Shane gestures to the pool of liquid, “is shark repellent.”

     

    “Ok.  Well I certainly didn’t empty it out onto the ground.  It doesn’t do any good right here.”  Shane watches as Bette puts it together.  “Wait, if this is here, what did we put out in the cove this morning?”

     

    They both enter the storage room and check the containers they had this morning.  “I can’t tell what it is, but it’s not repellent,” Shane states.  She picks up one container and carries it out with her.  “Come on.”

     

    Bette follows.  “Where are we going?”

     

    “To the science building.”

     

     

     

    Bette and Shane arrive at the science building and meet with Dr. Brennan.

     

    “Lt. Commander Porter, Ensign McCutcheon.  To what do I owe the pleasure of your company this afternoon?”

     

    “What’s up doc?” Shane tries to flirt with her.

     

    “McCutcheon, when are you going to drop that tired joke?”

     

    “Now I guess.”  Shane places the container on the counter.

     

    “Shark repellent?” questions Dr. Brennan.

     

    “That high dollar education sure did you a world of good doc,” Shane antagonizes her.

     

    “Actually Dr. Brennan,” Bette steps in, “We have reason to believe that someone tampered with the container and replaced therepellent with something else.  What we need to know is what replaced it?”
