    Half Bliss- Chapter 16

    Love is… being lucky.

    Love can be… easy.

Love… let us breathe easy- only to let us suffocate…

    Love tests. Us. Our love.

Love is a feeling. No. It is an abstract idea that is triggered from a hormone released…

Love had different names. Hate is love’s sibling. No love can come without hate.

Likewise, no hate can exist without love.

The contrast between the two is the only proof of that the other exists.

Tina woke up first the next morning to find herself wrapped around a pair of strong arms. She was sticky from the humid air between them. The heat they had created collectively kept her perspiring until the sheets were damp. She smiled thinking to herself that it wasn’t the only thing wet at the moment. She tried to peel herself away from Bette’s embrace without waking up her lover’s slumber. The blond sauntered off to the toilet. When she made her way back into the bedroom, she saw Bette’s body facing away from the door. The mocha skinned woman was visibly shaken with sobs as she curled up into a ball. Tina immediately crawled back into the bed and hugged her lover, pressing her head that was hidden by the mass of brown curls to her chest. She wanted Bette to hear her heartbeat. It was something that had always calmed the brunette especially when she just had a nightmare or in a state of distress, it always had been her favourite thing to do- listening to Tina’s heartbeat for her.  Her selfish self wanted to test if it was still the same case now, after everything that has happened.

While gently soothing the brunette, Tina finally remembered why she had so desperately called the brunette yesterday. She chastised herself silently for being so easily distracted but hypocritically smiled at the memory of their reconnection. She didn’t know how to deliver the news to Bette yesterday, much less now upon witnessing how fragile she really was in her arms. Although the reason for her breakdown remains a mystery (for now), Tina had figured or reasoned that it was probably due to the delayed response to everything that has happened. However, little did she know that she was playing a major role in Bette’s current state of distress.

    1. If “he” is who I think he is… then I almost want to say that death is a release he maybe didn’t deserve. But maybe that’s what Bette might need to start healing and moving on. Great update, thanks MsH. (and I love e.e. cummings)

    2. Interesting story, but too vague. I do hope that eventually you plan to tie everything together and not leave things open to interpretation. I, for one, would like a clear-cut explanation on everything. Also, earlier in the story, you mentioned that Alice, Shane, and Helena were in the planet wanting an explanation from Kit about what happened to Bette and had ended up giving her resigned expressions when she wouldn’t. Now you are making like no one has ever met Helena before and she just showed up. It doesn’t make any sense and you should probably go back in the story and edit it so that it does. If this story is supposed to be somewhere between the third and fourth season, then Helena would have been a part of the group anyway according to the show’s timeline.

    3. i just found your story, and think that you did well by not spelling things out. you write well, not least because you know the value of subtlety in fiction. thanks, i enjoyed reading your posts.
