Girl Meets Girl
“You need to at your old age pops,” I joked and he laughed.
“Whoa, I’m not that old,” he said and I just laughed.
We paid for our meals and Alice and I went to sit at the same table as Shane. I don’t know how I did it, but I managed to find all lesbians at work to befriend. I was lucky to have found kindred spirits in my new home. We sat and started to make small talk, as I watch Tina walk away, I guess I sighed pretty loud and Alice brought me out of my fantasy.
“Yo forget about it, she’s married and has a kid.”
“I know, but it can’t keep me from fantasizing.”
“Speaking of fantasizing, is your boss single?”
“Yes, Al she is but I don’t think she’s up for dating right now. She just stopped seeing that one crazy ass chick from psyc, umm, Tonya? Yeah. What a psycho.”
“How ironic that she’s crazy as fuck and works in the psyc ward,” Shane said and laughed.
“How long do you think I should wait before I ask her out?”
“Alice, I’ll let you know when it’s a good time. Right now, she’s a mess.”
“Oh but what a beautiful mess she is,” Alice said and we laughed.
“Chef McCutcheon, I am having a hard time with this recipe,” a young redhead said, coming to our table, “I know you’re at lunch but Rosie needs me to do this quickly.”
“It’s no bother Lara, just give me a sec, ok?”
“Of course,” she said and walked away.
“Shane, you’re staring,” I said and Shane turned her attention back to us.
“What? I don’t mind if she bothers me at all,” she said and laughed, “damn, they get younger and younger.”
Alice and I made small talk as Shane left us, and soon after our lunch was over. Alice chastised me on the way out about Tina and I chastised her about my boss. As we parted we made plans to get a drink later that night at my sister’s bar.
As the day went on I tried to keep Tina out of my thoughts, but she kept popping into my head. I couldn’t help but think of her because everywhere I turned, there she was. She was so sweet and was very nice, she always talked to me. She smiled each time she saw me, and I couldn’t help but smile back. What is this woman doing to me?
