    Bette not only loved the man but she loved his art. She purchased two pieces from his ‘New Beginnings’ collection which she thought apropos to Tina’s re-birth, their new love and life together, and the kinship she’d formed with the African American artist.

    After returning from New York to Los Angeles the couple spent a lot of time in West Hollywood hanging out at the Planet with Bette’s sister Kit and her friends Alice and Shane. Kit embraced Tina immediately when she saw how happy she made Bette and what a great couple they were together. She’d been stunned to learn that Bette and Tina knew Helena and Dusty but what was more astonishing was the fact that they both worked at the Porter Clinic on Tahaa. The sisters marveled at how small the world could be at times. Of course that opened up the discussion for Alice to regale them with her theories on the network of interconnectedness where it took less than three connections to link together any two lesbians in L.A.

    Tina sensed how overprotective Kit was of Bette so her accepting Tina into their family so readily spoke volumes to Tina’s character and the obvious love and affection she had for Kit’s baby sister. Bette loved Alice’s boisterous personality and Shane’s quiet assertion of loyalty. Though they hadn’t met before she knew of them through Kit and Helena so needless to say they too became fast friends and extended family.

    The group talked of traveling to Tahaa someday to visit Helena and Dusty as the lovers did not seem to have any intent to return to the states. Peggy Peabody had been successful in getting Helena’s record expunged and the charges against Dusty dropped so the jailhouse lovers were no longer considered fugitives from the law. Although there was no danger of either of them serving any prison time should they decide to come back to Los Angeles, they simply preferred to maintain the life they’d made for themselves on the tiny island in the South Pacific.

    “Looks like nobody warned you about dropping the soap.” Jackie came upon the new inmate in the shower.

    “Get the fuck out of my face.” She answered as she righted herself from her bent position.
