    Family Woman (Chapter 4)

When she got out into the living room, she put her hands in her pockets, watching as Tina got off the phone. “Um … can I … take Angelica to school today?”

“Daycare?” Tina corrected, intrigued by the look on Bette’s face. She looked almost afraid. “Sure baby. If you’re feeling alright. Are you working later in the day?”

The truth was no, but Bette thought that maybe their time alone would be good for her. Like maybe she could learn something, although it was difficult to take on the responsibility. “Sure. I’d love to take her.”

“Wonderful,” Tina smiled, assuming this was Bette’s way of romancing her. She loved having extra time in the morning to get ready. As she got up and walked past her wife, Tina whispered to her, “That scores you points, baby.” She attempted to wink once more, and slipped into the bathroom for a shower.

It was only once she was content with this prospect of adventure that she realized she had no idea where the daycare was, or when she had to arrive. However, a quick call to Alice would fix all that.

“Um … put on your things,” Bette directed as Angelica stared blankly back at her. “And then I’m gonna … um … I have to give someone a call. And then when I’m done with that, I’ll drive you to this … daycare place, okay?”

Angelica smiled, excited that Bette would let her pick what she wanted to wear – after all, she wasn’t often given such freedom to pick her own clothing.

Bette had an inkling that she was assuming quite a bit of the girl. “Um … can you put on your jacket and ski pants too?”

Angelica nodded and then giggled while she ran down the hall.

“Oh sweet lord,” Bette sighed, walking over to the phone and somehow dialling Alice’s phone number from memory.

Alice picked up after the first ring. “She’s fine! I’m telling you!”

“What?” Bette asked, overly confused with Alice’s tone of voice.

    “Oh … Bette?”

Bette wanted to laugh. “So she’s worried about me, huh?”

“Ya said shit, Bette,” Alice teased. “I mean, what did you expect? But no worries – I reassured her like the excellent friend I am.”

    1. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!! such torture for our poor Bette but it was soooo the right thing to do (though i reckon 99.9% of your readers were wishing for a different outcome!) can’t wait to read the next chapter, please be quick ;)

    2. Such a sweet, funny and sad chap, all in one! Bette finally saw what she’s been missing in her life, love how she’s tryig to be fair to ‘other Bette’, how she’s not using opportunity. Can’t wait for next chap! Damn, it’s soo funny!!!!

    3. “And you’re good for my ego,” Best line ever (lol)I don’t know how many more nights Bette will be able to fake sleeping before Tina gets suspicious. Bette needs to bite the bullet and tell Tina she can’t remember anything so they can move forward & Bette can get back to her real life and reclaim her Tina that she let go all those years ago. Thanks for the update!

    4. Another great chapter – funny, cute and poignant. Of course that is what Angie would wear given free choice – wouldn’t we all?! And Bette was quite right to pretend to be asleep as to do anything else would have been wrong, very wrong… bad… bad Bette….. and we don’t want a bad Bette, do we? No, really, do we? Sorry, drifted off there for a moment! I love the way you are developing the growing connection between Bette and Angie, and the beautiful reconnection Bette is feeling with Tina, with the sadness that entails. Thank you!

    5. That’s awesome that you want to work in education. I don’t teach, but admire those who chose to do it. I’m torn between wanting to watch “Family Man” or not. I think I’ll wait until your story is finished, which I’m hoping will be many postings from now. By the way, I’ve slipped a few times with my language in front of the students also. Not many, but more than once and less than four times, not bad for eleven years there.

    6. A bit over the edge?..hehe cuz you’ve end it there?..And mix emotion..Sad, Bette just found out what she’s missing in her ‘life?’…But happy as hell!..Finally she’s got her answer. …But if this is base on a movie? So it means? she will be yank out from there?..Now that she knows what she’s been missing in her life? … OMG!

    7. This is my most fav holiday story!!! Adorable! I imagine Bette having 2 angels -one on her left shoulder (Bad Bette) and one on her right shoulder (Good Bette) and the argument between the 2 “angels” over whether to have sex with beautiful Tina. Sigh obviously…”Good angel Bette” won this round. Yes, I’m glad Bette’s got integrity…but you know…(puppy dog eyes)…longing for your NC-17. :)

    8. The point you made about Bette not having the right to sleep with Tina, was something that has been totally overseen in the film. And it was an important one. Told you…this story is so much better!

    9. It is so cute to see Bette bonding with Angelica. Do you think Bette will start bonding with Tina in one of your NC-17s? I hope Angelica does not pick up ‘NC-17’ as a new swear word!

    10. Your description of Angie’s outfit was adorable. I can just imagine the tutu over the Spidey costume. Will Tina ever discover the problems Bette is having or will Bette ever tell her? She ca’t keep Tina waiting to “discuss the bills” every time. Bette will have to succumb to desire and Tinas needs or tell her the truth. This story is actually funny and sad at the same time. Great update. Thanks for posting.

    11. Wow…I’m just loving this story. I never saw the movie (I can’t stand Cage)but I am aware of the premise and it’s lovly to see our girls wrapped up in its story line. I look forward to your updates – can’t wait for the next post :)

    12. omg u depicted my fav scene in the movie. I just remember thinking how great it must feel to have the person u have been with for years look at u, as if it was the first time. great job. glad tina didnt get mad at bette for going to ‘sleep’.

    13. I just love the way you have written the characters in this story. Angie is absolutely adorable, Tina is so loving that she is overlooking all of Bette’s odd behavior. Bette is very endearing as she tries to figure out what she wants out of life. I can’t wait for the next chapter.

    14. I love the part about “Look at me like you haven’t seen me every day for the last 13 years?” That is my second favorite quote from this film. Top one comes from the scene at the airport. Thanks for posting. I am enjoying this story.
