Rosanna’s breath caught when Bette stepped into the restaurant.  She wore a cream colored pantsuit with a long loose matching jacket.  A low-cut brown camisole brought out the rich tones of her skin and hair.  Even more than the look Rosanna was caught by the confidence that Bette exuded.  Heads turned throughout the restaurant when she entered.  She was a beautiful woman. Rosanna was sure that Bette knew it but she seemed unaware of her impact on others. 

            She watched as Bette scanned the room to ascertain if her date was here.  When she saw Rosanna at the cozy table for two by the window she waved and spoke to the hostess indicating she already had a table.  Rosanna thoroughly enjoyed looking at the woman as she made her way to the table.  Bette raised an eyebrow at Rosanna’s frank appraisal.  Rosanna met her eyes unapologetic. 

            “It’s good to see you again, Rosanna.”  Bette extended her hand which Rosanna took and held for a moment. 

            “It’s really good to see you Bette.” 

            Bette found herself responding to the flirtation and felt herself flush slightly.  She was thankful that her skin did not so easily betray her emotions.  Bette found herself at a loss.  She was used to the appraising looks and the come-ons from both men and women.  Rosanna however was in a class by herself.  Part of what put her off was the directness with which Rosanna approached her. 

            Bette settled into her seat and perused the menu.  “I assume you like Thai food, their pad Thai is quite good.”

            “Would you like a drink to start?”  The waiter asked standing beside the table.

            “Sparkling water for me” Rosanna replied. 

            “Bring us a bottle.”  Bette nodded.

            “Are you ready to order Ladies or do you need a few more moments?”

            “Please do the honors for me, Bette.  I like all kinds of food.”

            Bette was again taken aback at the way that Rosanna surrendered control to her.  She found that she enjoyed it. 

            “The next time we go out on a date I will be in charge so I want you to remember how gracious I was today in submitting to your lead.”  Rosanna stated quietly looking into Bette’s eyes.  Again there was that openness that was like a breath of fresh air.  There was a level of confidence that Bette recognized as a woman who usually got what she wanted.
