“Yes… yes.. thank you”

“Let’s hope that son of your’s isn’t as stubborn as you are and responds to his Mommy relaxing a little. I want to see you weekly until he makes his entrance, and if the contractions become stronger, and closer together, get to the hospital and we will give you something to stop them.”

“Of course Dr.” Tina said “And we will be here weekly for the appointments.” Tina reassured the Dr.

“Now how about we take a look at this little guy… This is going to be cold Bette” she said as she covered Bette’s belly with the gel and quickly found Gavin being quite the ham and looking right at them.

“OMG Bette look!”

“He is perfect!”

“He looks like you baby”

“He has your nose she added.”

“I guess he does.”

Dr. Wilson left the picture of their baby up for them to analyze and enjoy while she did a little checking of her own. “Alright.. everything looks Ok… he is growing just like he should be… what do you say we get you ladies a few shots for you to show off.”

Both Bette and Tina nodded in excitement.

Bette and Tina left the office, appointments made and ultrasound photos in hand. A wave of apprehension consuming them both.

“Are you Ok babe? You are being awful quiet.” Tina asked

“Yeah… I’m scared.. Colin was early so I figured he would be to, but not this early.” Tears flowed down Bette’s face as she answered. “I just want him to be Ok T”

“Baby.. he will be just fine.. he isn’t here yet.. and we are going to do everything we can to make sure he stays right where he is.. safe and sound for as long as possible.”

“I know.. I’m just scared.”

“I know you are baby.. I am to, but he will be fine… we will get through it.”

“Bette honey…”

“Yeah T”

“I know you really want to get the nursery done… but baby…”

“Not today T… maybe tomorrow, but not if the contractions don’t stop. I want to get it done for him.. and for you.. but if not I’m at a point that it wouldn’t matter anyway. No one would know it wasn’t done but me. Well with a little cleaning that is.”

“What do you have left babe?”

“Just painting his name over where the crib is going to be.”

“Really?”

“Yeah”

“Can I see it babe?… Please?”

“I wasn’t going to let you see it until it was completely done, but I guess there’s no harm in it since we don’t know if it’s going to get any more done that it is now.” Bette said with a half smile knowing she was going to make Tina’s day.

“I’m so excited to see it baby, but I wish it was on your terms, and definitely different circumstances.”

“It’s Ok T… Really… I am a little disappointed but him being ok is more important.”

“And that is why I love you baby!”

“We need to call everyone and let them know what’s going on.” Tina suggested.

“Yeah or we could just call Alice…. T can we wait a little while before we call?”

“Sure baby.. but why?”

“They will all converge. I want to have some time with you before they all show up.”

“Are you ok babe?”

“Yeah… I just would like us to be alone when I show you the nursery.” The smile on Tina’s said everything Bette needed to know. They would not be making those calls until tonight.
