    A trip to the doctor..

    “What’s the matter?” Tina was quick to ask.

    “Nothing is the matter at the moment. It just seems that your son is in a bit of a hurry to get here. Bette those flutters you have been feeling don’t appear to be braxton hicks after all.”

    “You mean they are real contractions?” Bette said a bit in shock.

    “Yes and they are working…. you are dilated to 2cm.”

    “What?”

    “Now don’t panic we can keep this under control” Dr. Wilson said confidently. “Effective immediately I want you on bed rest Bette. I want you off your feet as much as possible. I am going to give you some medication to make sure his lungs are ready.”

    “This can’t be happening.” Bette was nearly in tears.

    “Babe.. it’s ok. You are far enough a long that if he was born today he may need a little help, but he will be fine… and don’t worry about the nursery.. he won’t be staying in there for a while anyway, you can just finish it when you are back on your feet.”

    “Please tell me she has finished painting!” Dr. Wilson asked. She knew good and well there was no way Bette would rest until it was done.

    “Not quite… we were actually just talking about it on the way over here. She has about an hours work left.”

    “Is that right Bette? And not is a really good time to be completely honest with me.” Bette nodded. Dr. Wilson thought for a moment. “Alright Bette this is how it is going to go, and there is no room for negotiation here. Do you understand?” Bette nodded “Tina I’m counting on you to make her hold to this.”

    “I will Dr.”

    “Now.. just so we are clear the only reason I am doing this is because you need to relax and rest and I know that will not happen if I don’t let you finish it, and at the moment I feel like you being up on your feet for an hour is the lesser of the two evils. No because I think it is a good idea for you to be up painting at this point. You can finish the painting. No more than one hour, and only if you go at least four hours with no contractions, and I want you back in bed the rest of the day. Am I understood?”

    10. Well now, Mr. Gavin Porter Kennard’s arrival is looming on the horizon albeit a tad bit early. Bette was right just call Alice and she will alert everyone else. They will have more visits than they can handle and Bette would want to stay up and visit, of course, Tina will not allow it. Great update. Post when you can.
