    Cowgirl Take Me Away

    Montana

She stood relaxed, looking out over the vast expanse of the land, taking in as much as possible.  She had been living here most of her life and she had yet to tire of the picturesque landscape – massive mountains with open welcoming arms, countless thick white clouds in a piercing blue sky that seemed to go on forever, rolling green pastures with dark rich soil that she could pick up and break in her hands.  And the ever present breeze, sometimes commanding, sometimes coaxing, but always there like an ever loyal friend.  This was her father’s ranch, and now it was hers – as far as the eye could see was the land that was under her care.  Thankfully her sister Kit and Kit’s husband Angus also live on the land to help.

With the morning chores complete, Bette took a moment to enjoy the early sun and watch it bathe the rolling meadows of the ranch.  She allowed her thoughts again to turn to the blonde beauty that was invading her dreams again last night.  As much as she tried, she could not place her.  She looked like no one she had known before, or even seen in passing.  Resigning herself to the mystery, she headed into the house to get some coffee and begin a painting of the anonymous woman.

Once changed out of her boots and jeans and with coffee in hand, Bette headed into her studio on the second floor of the farmhouse.  It was a glorious room – taking up one whole side of the second floor with large windows that ran the entire span of the room.  It was east facing, so it gobbled up all of the morning sun.  It was for this reason that Bette chose the mornings as her favorite time to be in that room.  Painting was her passion, but it wasn’t the only passion she delved into with this room.  One corner was devoted to her pottery craft.  She had a modest potters’ wheel and a small workbench so that she could throw pots and bowls, but also dabble in hand building works of clay.  She loved the tactical nature of creating with clay and it catered to her desire to delve into creating in three dimensions.
