Cornucopia ~ Chapter 8 ~ Thanksgiving Day (Part One of Two)

    "What should I teach?"

Drew replied as he ran up the steps to his seat, "Whatever you think people should know!"

As niece and uncle walked through the huge, multi-storied bus terminal, Tina was overwhelmed.  Though she was certain that she would have been fine on her own, she wondered what she would have done if her uncle hadn’t met her bus.  She continued to carry the pie and, concerned about her uncle’s appearance, she insisted upon carrying the small backpack that held the very few items she had packed for her abrupt trip, "I feel better when I carry them.  It’s one of my things, you know, quirks."

After they had discussed her conversation with her parents and his conversation immediately afterwards with the same parents, they didn’t speak much as they made the long trip to the exit.  With the exception of one newsstand, the shops in the terminal were all shuttered, which made the area seem eerily quiet, even though people filled the chairs in the waiting areas.  Just after they passed the ticket sales counters, Russ stopped, "Wait a second."

Russ had had a wild idea.  He waged a war with his rational side, the one that reminded him of the state of his bank account and his huge expenses from the most recent successes of the medical establishment.  He knew he would probably have to purchase the ticket for his errant niece’s flight home. However, the rational side lost.

"Come with me," he commanded, and Tina followed him to the short ticket line, where they waited.  When finally at the front, Russ asked, "How much would two tickets cost to Houston, one’s for a child?"

Following their return after Howie’s adventure, Dana had sat in their hotel suite watching television with her brother.  Ninety minutes of the parade had been sufficient, but she found the cartoons that followed unbearable.  She still struggled to suppress her anger at Howie and felt guilty for those feelings since there was a chance that Howie had really gotten lost and had not been pulling a prank.

While waiting the several hours before dinner, Dana had surveyed the suite repeatedly.  At one point, she spotted the bags from her shopping trip with her mother sitting in the corner of the room.  She decided to wear something different for dinner and laid her new outfits across her bed and smiled.

    1. What a pleasant surprise. Doesn’t matter if the story is out of sync with the calendar, you evoke the time anyway. Too bad Jenny couldn’t have inherited a little more sanity from Drew. You made me google McLean, but it was worth it.

    2. What a wonderful chapter with present day events along with past events intermingled within the scope of the post. Will the cast ever remember meeting each other as young teenagers? Can’t wait for the next post to appear for my reading pleasure.

    3. wasn’t expecting an update on this one but surprise surprise, I new I didn’t wake up at 5am for nothing. Thanks for the update looking forward the next part!!

    4. I’m thrilled your embarrassment did not outweigh your will to post!!! I still rate this my favorite holiday story (no matter what holiday it spills over on, lol). The Russ, Shane, and Tina triangle is breaking my heart. Your Alice-antics are priceless! Jenny as a rainbow blur is spot on, lol, and Dana’s thought bubbles are just delightful! Bette’s mission to re-unite mother and son is deeply moving. Please keep going, I’m good for the ride until St. Patrick’s Day!!! “Erin Go Bragh!” (or is it “Erin go braless”???) SK/C

    5. ”I’m very embarrassed…” – Dear S, if anyone complains we’ll bop’m for you! – re:Spotlight on Authors, Got a link to the pg? (I’ve done maybe 3 posts on other parts of this site; I get lost easily, apparently) – “Point symmetry”: I’m sorry, but my relatives do not allow me to play with pointy objects. – See? Some of us do read author’s notes!… ;-D

    6. Hey Ice Cream, so glad your choosing to continue over your embarrassment. My word if I didn’t anything becaue of embarrassment I wouldn’t do much.
