Coming up for air – part thirty two

Bette was enjoying the conversation. She’d missed having passionate conversations about art, and she had an easy time getting caught up in the discussion about what strategy the faculty should take on inspiring the upcoming artists at UCLA. But the obvious flirting of the woman in front of Bette was starting to annoy her. She looked down at the tepid Perrier on the counter and suddenly she missed Tina. Bette ordered another cold Perrier before she excused herself and went to find Tina.

When Bette turned around she saw her sister holding Tina close, running her hand soothingly up and down her back. Bette could tell from Tina posture that this wasn’t just a friendly hug, but she couldn’t see Tina face so she was unable to make a sound conclusion as to what the hug was about.

Bette was coming up behind Tina just as she extracted herself from Kit’s arms.
    “Thanks, Kit… I needed that…” Tina whispered.
“Any time… now here comes your lady…” Kit said in a reassuring tone of voice.

Bette was looking at Tina with a frown. “What’s going on? Are you okay?”
“… yes… it was nothing…” Tina said, her eyes not meeting Bette’s.
“… it didn’t look like nothing…” Bette said. She reached out and ran her hand down Tina’s upper arm.
“Is that my drink?” Tina asked in an attempt to change the subject.
“Yes, sorry it took so long…” Bette said and handed Tina her drink, “Tina, please talk to me… you look upset…”
“It’s me, Bette… I just need to get over this…” Tina said, willing herself to smile at Bette.
“Get over what? You’re not making any sense… don’t give me that half-smile of yours and say it’s nothing, when I can tell that something’s up… baby, look at me!” Bette said and grabbed both of Tina’s upper arms.

“I hate feeling this needy, Bette…” Tina said, finally looking straight into Bette’s concerned eyes, “I know you weren’t doing anything wrong… but I just get so scared sometimes when I see you with someone else….”
“You saw me talking to Katherine…? And you thought I was coming on to her?” Bette asked with a horrified look on her face.
“… no, I told myself you were just talking… but you said you’d be right back, and when you didn’t, I went out to find you…” Tina began.
“and you found me talking to her… just like the night of Provocations?” Bette asked.
“… yes….” Tina said in a soft voice.
“Oh, baby… I’m so sorry you had to feel that way. I’m not at all interested in her… we were just talking about art… God, I should’ve paid more attention to you… I’m sorry, T, “ Bette said with remorse.
“Bette, I’m not blaming you… you have the right to talk to anybody you like… I won’t stop you doing that. Like I said, I need to get over this… this fear of losing you,” Tina said, taking a deep breath to remain calm.

Bette shook her head. She couldn’t believe how Tina blamed herself for her reaction when Bette knew, she was the one who caused Tina’s insecurity.

“You know what? I should’ve brought Katherine over to our table and introduced her to you… that way, you would have known who I was talking to… and she would have seen that I have a stunning girlfriend who I’m completely dedicated to… I should have made sure you’d have no reason to doubt my devotion in the first place. For that I’m sorry, T… please forgive me…” Bette said, biting her lip.
“That would have been nice… but Bette, really – I’m fine… there’s no need to ask for my forgiveness. I had a moment where I was sort of overwhelmed… but I know you’re committed to me. I do,” Tina said, smiling for real this time.
“Oh, good…. Can I have one last dance before we go home?” Bette asked while putting her arm around Tina’s waist.
“You can have as many as you like…” Tina said and gave Bette a soft kiss.

Kit smiled as she watched Bette and Tina find common ground. From a distance she saw them melt together in a contended embrace as they once again ruled the dance floor.

    1. I got worried there for minute, I thought I saw some drama creeping up, all crafty like, to scare away the bliss. That was a very smooth save from Kit. That’s not the first time she’s had her baby sis’ back, and I can see it won’t be the last. I know Tina will get completely past it, eventually. It’ll just take time, and Bette proving herself to Tina. On the plus side, Yay for quickies! And the best way to keep Al’s mouth shut is to make sure Dana’s on the other end of it. Wonderful chapter as always, anker, thank you.

    2. Wonderful chapter and I do hope Tina gets past her fear. But do you know what would be hot? Bette getting so jealous and possessive herself that it turns Tina on and they have a powerful night together. Just a hint and suggestion thrown your way! LOL! Post again ASAP!

    3. i believe bette won’t ever make this mistake again and it’s nice to see them talking about their fears, better than shutting another person up

    4. It will take Tina a little time to get over her insecurities when she see’s Bette talking to other women. Even though her mind is saying one thing, it is difficult for her to control those emotions that make her frightened. I think we have all been in Tina’s shoes at one time or another. It was wonderful of Kit to soothe Tina until Bette could talk to her. Bette running her hands up and down Tina’s thigh at the table…wow…left me breathless to say the least! I don’t know what get’s more action on the L-Word fanfic site, Kit’s office or the bathroom at the Planet? LOL! No matter where B & T get naughty….they are HOT together! PPS.

    5. Another great two chapters. I now see so much more with your writing than I did before. You have always left me wanting more with your words and these last two chapters are no exception. Love that they are talking about things because communication is so very important in any relationship. Thank you so very much anker!

    6. Hi, Anker! I guess I comment on the (perhaps) less noticeable things because that is what makes your writing so unique and subtle. I certainly enjoyed this chapter as well, but my favorite part was when Bette, of course in retrospect, realized she should have brought Katherine over to the table and continued the discussion in Tina’s presence – with a COLD Perrier. Both our girls are trying… what more can we ask? Have a good week, and thanks for writing!

    7. I loved the way that you delt with the drama. I can understand Tina’s POV and am happy that Bette understood that. Maybe if Tina was able to see Bette’s face and not the other woman’s face Tina would not have panicked the way the see did. OMG the almost sex at the table was priceless. Then loved the adult alone time in Kit’s office.

    8. I am glad Bette sees that because of her, Tina is very insecur and It’s up to her to make sure Tina has no reason to doubt her in the futur. Awesome chapter anker, always looking forward to more.

    9. Awww very tender, very sweet…highly romantic. Keep up the fabulous writing my friend, you are an extremely creative individual who is able to create an intricate scene for your readers. BRAVO! Post soon….

    10. Hey L – you handled that situation really well, glad you wrote about it – it’s important to their relationship. I know Tina can trust Bette and have absolutely nothing to worry about, but it’s human to feel the way Tina does, especially with their past…Kit was great and so was her office LMAO!!! Great post mate – and btw I’m fast when not very busy :o)) Looking forward to hear from you again, slowpoke!!!! LOL

    11. Hm, well, regardless, I like your Tina better! Dean Porter… I might’ve actually done SOME of my work! LOL Hell, I would have offered myself up for slave labor! But anyway… Lord, that was hot at the table; good thing they took it to Kit’s office (what an oblidging sister). Seamlessly switching to drama, amazing. Always a pleasure, anker, keep it coming!

    12. H.E.L.L.O…….Anker! How I have missed you this week. Please don’t ever apologize for not writing sooner! I am lucky to have time to comment sometimes.
