Coming up for air – part forty six

Bette took another step towards Tina, standing close enough for her to feel the heat coming from Tina’s body.
“T… look at me please…” Bette whispered, staring at Tina who continued to look anywhere but directly at Bette.
“What happened?” Bette put her hand to Tina’s cheek, urging her to look up.
    “Charlie called…”
Bette waited for Tina to steady her breathing.
“We’re ready Bette… we can go forward if we want to… we can try again…” Tina said, her tears once again spilling over, as she looked Bette straight in the eye.

Bette pulled Tina close. Ever so tightly she held her. Bette felt dizzy as a wave of happiness flowed through her.
    “Finally…” Bette whispered into Tina’s hair. “Finally…”
After a while Bette felt Tina’s arms around her back. She sighed at the feeling of being held, needing it as much as Tina did at that moment.

“This is a good thing, isn’t it, T? We waited for this…. don’t you think it’s wonderful news?” Bette whispered with her cheek to Tina’s.
“Do you think it’s a good thing? Do you really, Bette?” Tina asked and pulled back a little.
“Yes, of course I do… how can you even ask me that?”
“Because I haven’t seen you since we got home from Aspen… Work is taking over once again and that makes it impossible for me to know how you feel…”
“But Tina…. it’s only been a few weeks…” Bette started.
“How will I know it’ll only be for a little while?”

It was a simple question. In the past Bette would easily have found a persuasive answer. Back then her first priority would have been work, being truthful to Tina would only come in second. But now, now her priorities had shifted, or so she thought.

    “I don’t know…” Bette answered in honesty.
“We’ve been here so many times before… or rather when I was home with this amazing news for us, alone, waiting for you, it hit me how many times I’ve been waiting for you to come home so that I could share something with you. I’ve been second on your list forever, Bette,” Tina said, reading Bette’s mind, “and I can live with that most of the time. But this… this is too fucking important. Us getting pregnant… it has to be the most important thing for both of us. I need it to be… I cannot feel alone in this… I just can’t, Bette.”
“You’re not alone in this… I want to know. I want to be there. I do….” Bette said with a burning sensation in her throat and eyes.
“But don’t you see that it doesn’t count if I have to come get you every time something significant happens…? I can’t fight for your attention when it comes to our child. It doesn’t count if I have to pull you away from something else every time… Sometimes you just need to be there without me having to ask you first.”
“I am. We’ve talked about this, Tina. You know I want this just as much as you do. I know work is crazy right now… but it’s just the beginning of the semester. It’ll be better soon… I think I’ve shown you my intensions over the past six months. I left The CAC to be more available… I think you’re being unfair here Tina,” Bette said, the anger rising inside her at the thought of all the changes she’d made for their family.

    1. That was, as lucy said, lovely. They’ve had a really important talk, and B&T can only go up from this point, whether they end up being pregnant or not. So very good, anker. I loved every word… Thanks for the chapter.

    2. Aww. The end made me so happy. I’m glad that Tina confronted Bette about the work issue. They need to be in it together.. not just when they have a child but in creating it..and through the pregnancy. Can’t wait for more. I love this story. Its really a rebuilding of their relationship. Its romantic and sweet..and a good read. PPS.

    3. Wow babe! It amazes me, everytime I read a chappy how talented you really are.I’m happy that you are finding the time to write again,cause…..my sweet camote you rock! Talk soon xoxo

    4. perfect bloody perfect and i owe u a PM, so it will be sometime 2day; but again bloody perfect Tina really hit the nail on the head and they come alive when Bette comes out from her ‘reserved space’…GREAT WRITING…catch u when u get back…

    5. Tina reclaimed her wife before Bette strayed to far away from her. Their relationship has grown so much from the last time they were separated. Tina recognized the signs that Bette was getting lost in work & Bette accepted her reminder & was able to correct it the situation before their relationship suffered a major setback. This is a much stronger B & T and I hope they were successful in producing a little Kennard – Porter! Ciao.

    6. I guess every couple experiences that time when they see a side of their partner that is a little foreign to them. Accepting and moving forward isn’t always so easy. Good ending showing them more on the same page. I’m not a tremendous lover of the baby so soon storyline, but I know it’s a popular theme. Nice writing! Thanks!

    7. May their wait be fruitful. Tina took the stand about Bette’s work and probably saved their life as a couple. The emotions ran free and probably brought a little peace to both of their spirits.

    8. What a lovely chapter, left me warm and fuzzy. I like that they are talking out their feelings, being open about their fears and hopes. Always look forward to your posts.

    9. I am so glad Tina had that talk with Bette. It had to be said. Very touching though, I had tears in my eyes. I always wanted Charlie to be the donor. I hope they get pregnant soon. Love this story! PPS!!

    10. This is an awesome chapter and I am glad that Tina told how Bette felt and that Bette actually listened. I hope they keep this conversation up and them loving each other very much. PPS

    11. Hello Ank, Good to have you back and posting more of this amazing adventure. I loved the way that Tina called Bette out on her recent behavior. Yes, Bette had started a new job but that shouldn’t allow her to ignore Tina and their plans to get pregnant. After everything that they have been through it was a shame that Bette was once again excaping into her work. Yes, it was completely understandable as that is the one place where Bette feels secure in doing the right thing. TIna was a megastar in pointing out everything. Then to cap it off, you had them snuggled in bed, hopeful that the latest insemination had worked. It was wonderful to picture them in bed with Bette’s cuddling Tina as she slept. There little talk undid all of the previuos hurt adn showed what a powerful couple they have become. Now I just want you to confirm the pregnancy and get on with this joyful journey. More please from your grateful and Loyal Fan.

    12. Hia E… Ouch! That was a hard conversation. Nobody writes those like you do… you being so clever and all LOL… I loved the chapter. It made sense AND it warmed my heart. Now that’s what I like. Can’t wait for more… and I really can’t wait to talk to you tomorrow. LL from me xo
