    Bette in L.A

     

    Shane:  You dont love her?

     

    Bette:  I do love her, well you know how shes the first you know?

     

    Shane nodded.

     

    Bette:  But I dont know if Im in love with her.  Shes such a great person Shane.  I dont know if I deserve her

     

    Shane:  Hey Bette, you deserve her, you deserve something more, something greater.

     

    Bette:  Thats real sweet of you Shane but I dont know.  I want to be in love and be with that person you know?  Not just be with someone cos I cant find another that would fill my heart with love.  You know what I mean?

     

    Shane nodded again.  I dont know what was wrong with me, I was blurting out all these feelings and Ive never done this.  Maybe the drink in hand had forced all the emotions out.  Or maybe this pent up emotions had been screaming to be released but no one had been there to listen.  Either way, nothing can stop me now from confessing what I was feeling.

     

    Bette:  I havent felt that for a long time Shane.  Its not because I havent had the opportunity to, I have.  I just cannot let myself fall in love, I cant.  If I see someone Shane, I wont even let them close.  They cannot take her place Shane.  No one can.  They cannot take what was and is hers Shane.  They cannot touch what she has touched.  I dont want to lose that.  If I they get close I kinda freak out.  I just dont want them to take her place.  Its all that I have left of her Shane.  All that I have left of her.

     

    Shane:  Im so sorry Bette.  I know you still love her Bette.  I know you do.  Youve tried hiding the fact Bette and appear strong.  But I know that shes the only person you love.  No one can take her place.  And you will find her again Bette.  You told me love always finds a way.  And I held on to it Bette.  And it got me through.  And thats why I think you should stay here longer because

     

    My cell rang.  I figured I should leave it ringing but when I saw the caller ID from New York, I thought its best I pick up.

     

    Bette:  Im sorry Shane hold that thought.  I have to take this.  It might be work.  Ill take this round the back.

     

    I wiped the tears that had run down my cheeks and made my way to a quieter corner.

     

    Bette:  (Inhaling and exhaling the huge air stuck in my throat) Hello, this is Bette.

     

    I heard a muffle at the other end.  I sniffled and wiped the tears.  I cleared my throat while trying to sound casual.

     

    Bette:  Sorry I cant hear you.  Youre going to have to speak up.  Hello?

     

    I heard an indistinct sound. 

     

    Bette:  I still cant hear you.  Please speak up (I pressed my cell to my ear to listen closely)

     

    And then there it was a familiar voice whispering groggily calling out my name
