    CHAPTER 20

"You’ve been quiet," Tina shut the door to her apartment and watched as Bette dropped her overnight bag by the couch.

"Have I been?  I don’t mean to be, I’m sorry;"

Bette shoved her hands in her pockets and followed the blonde into the kitchen.

"It’s fine; I just wanted to make sure that you were okay.  You want some wine?"

    "Yes, please."  Bette smiled.

Tina felt that familiar flutter in her chest; it seemed to be a consistent reaction to any of Bette’s affectionate glances.  Tina grabbed a bottle of cabernet and a corkscrew and turned to Bette who was casually leaning on the far end of the counter by the stove.

"So, what did you and my dad talk about?"

Bette shrugged, "Nothing in particular.  We talked about you and your mom. He adores you, you know.  Your father."

"I know.  I love him very much.  And I think that my parents are very fond of you, as well."

Bette smiled again and Tina thought she would faint,

"Oh yeah, and the douche bag Eric came up again."

    "God, my dad is ridiculous."

"Was he really that bad?  Eric?"

Bette motioned for Tina to hand over the bottle so that she could open it.

"Well, he was a defense lawyer so that was a strike against him."

"I could see why it would be," Bette nodded.

"And he was selfish and didn’t appreciate the fact that I had been spending a lot of time both at work and with my parents."

    "Strike 2" Bette confirmed.

    "And…"

Tina stared at Bette.  She stared at her eyes.  Her mouth.  She watched Bette’s hands as they cradled the opened bottle of wine.  She watched Bette lick her lips and then transferred her gaze to the agent’s body, studying the curve of the brunette’s hips –  the way her jeans fit perfectly, the swell of her breasts in the long sleeve tee she wore.

"And strike 3?" Bette asked, wondering where Tina had drifted off to.

    "He wasn’t you."

Tina could feel the heavy thump of her heart in her chest.  And as if in slow motion, she watched as Bette’s facial expression changed once she comprehended what had been said. The brunette set the bottle on the counter and closed the short distance between them.

    1. This entire chapter was exquisite, but I have to say, when I read this sentence I just got this goofy grin on my face….”It was beautiful and poignant and heart-wrenchingly clear to her now that what she felt for the brunette was stronger and more ridiculously romantic than she could have ever imagined.” The phrase “ridiculously romantic” LOL is a phrase that puts two words together that don’t normally go together, yet makes perfect sense. Thank you for this lovely chapter.

    2. Soooo good! As you know, we all just love your story and this chapter definitely did not disappoint! Thank you for posting today and for treating our girls with such tenderness and grace. Beautifully done! :)

    3. Beautiful chapter! And Tina’s right there’s definitely no going back. And I too smiled at the ridiculously romantic part. Thanks for posting! I hope to see more soon.

    4. Gosh, I do love this story so much. BTW, is this a two part NC-17? You are writing them with such warm and loving words that it really is a tribute to both actresses that played “our girls.” Azmama was right about Seahurst’s comment and it is truly golden. This was such an awesome post that I was compelled to go back and read it a second and third time before I could contemplate writing a comment at all, and I know this one doesn’t do it justice at all. Absolutely superb. The last two paragraphs caught my attention the most, there were a couple others but the last two said it all. She knew it would never be enough and Bette was all she would ever want or need and there was no going back. Indeed, when you find true love, that person is all you would ever want or need and nothing can trump it. Thanks so much for posting.

    5. “He wasn’t you…” Yay, way to go Tina! Talk about taking the BIG step… Funny how a casual conversation can suddenly turn into a moment of truth with just a few simple words… That was a lovely way to lead them to finally act on their feelings. Love the progress of this story and can’t wait to see what’s coming our way. Looking forward to seeing more of this special agent/detective amazing chemistry. Thanks a lot for the regular posts. I usually read each update just before going to bed, and I can safely say that everytime… You make my night! ;) K

    6. Tina went for it didn’t she? I have to agree with Dainty there needs to be a part two to this one. I love when a NC_17 has thought and feelings woven into it and not just the sexual acts. This was extremely well done. And a good NC-17 is hard to write well. Looking forward to the next update. Thanks.
