Breathe– Chapter 9
Tina leaned back into the headrest as she tried to keep sleep from taking her again.
“T, just let go,” Bette said tenderly as she saw the young women shift once again in her seat.
Tina shook her head without opening her eyes. “It’s so late and you have been up for so long. You must be tired too. I’ll just try to stay awake for awhile. Will you talk to me? Your voice makes me feel safe.”
Bette smiled wondering why that statement said by others would have launched her into a discussion about boundaries, parameters, and getting too close. With Tina, it just made her want to hold her in her arms and talk until the sun came up.
Bette sighed. “What do you want me to talk about?”
“My tests and your theories still off limits?” Tina asked again, too tired to even sound irritated.
“T, your tests were fine. You are fine. You are actually more than fine.” Bette reached for Tina’s hand and smiled knowing Tina hadn’t missed her meaning.
Tina opened her eyes for a moment. Almost relieved at the return of Bette’s flirtatious banter, she said. “So, the infamous flirt has returned. I was afraid I had chased her off.”
Bette thought for a moment and decided not to seriously broach this subject with Tina and darken the light conversation they were enjoying. She knew Tina was tired, and if she was willing to admit it, she was too.
Serious conversations about ***** or straight, running or staying, holding or letting go, would have to wait for morning.
“You really are fine, T,” she said as she squeezed her hand which Tina held in her lap along with Bette’s. “I just think we should get some sleep before I walk you through hunches, theories, and test results.”
“But,” she continued softly, “I will tell you anything and every thing you want to know in the morning after we have both slept.”
Too tired to fight, disagree or insist, Tina simply nodded and responded, “I still want to hear your voice.”
Bette sighed deeply as the warmth that had spread through her body returned. “What do you want me to talk about?” she repeated, relieved that Tina had abandoned the fight for test results.

Nice – you write a good mystery. I’d read this if it were a book – I am reading it – & will continue!
I am sure you can manage a few more sleepless nights to keep writing. When the creative juice is flowing you have to keep going- you won’t be able to sleep anyway with the story running in your head so you may as well stay up to write! Right?
So when can I have the next chapter???
This story has a huge grip on me, I’m wanting to read it like it is a novel, I just can’t wait for the next chapter.
So are the women in the pic’s look like tina, or does she know them??
Oh please post soon! I can hardly wait in between posts. Your story is suspenseful, breathtaking and heartful all at the same time. Keep up the great work!
