Bitter Endings, Sweet Beginnings: Part Two

Dana didn’t cheat on Alice, though she suspected their friends probably thought she did. But she didn’t cheat, at least physically. She cheated mentally and emotionally, spending time with Lara in the guise of friendship, denying to herself what was really going on.

    Except Alice knew.

It made sense, after all, Alice had experienced it herself with their initial flirtation during Dana’s engagement to Tonya. And she supposed that the blonde didn’t want to make what she saw as Tonya’s mistake at the time. She didn’t want to be inattentive, leaving the athlete unsure of what exactly her feelings were.

On the contrary, she was too attentive. After the concert and the let the mouse breath conversation there was a brief reprieve, of course, as Alice took the conversation to heart as she did with most everything. Then slowly but surely it started again. Constant phone calls, dropping in on her training sessions, and the ever present and persistent needling when Dana was around anyone female not in their close circle of friends.

At first Dana ignored it, hoping somehow the behavior would stop, that Alice was hormonal or something of that nature and it would blow over. But it didn’t and if anything, it got worse. The constant underlining mistrust and jealousy was killing everything good about their love and it honestly was starting to scare Dana.

    Alice scared Dana.

This realization sent the brunette into a tailspin of panic because it was Alice. Her Alice, her best friend, her love, and her life. She should never be scared of her but Dana was. She was scared that this irrational creature holding her girlfriend captive would remain and the real Alice, the one she loved and was in love with still, would be lost forever.

If there was one thing Dana remained honest about it was her own faults and inabilities as a person. That’s why she contacted Dr. Bradshaw and met with him to discuss Alice’s behavior. The meeting left her feeling hopeful that they could get through this, that they could fix their problems and return things to how they used to be.

When she got home and Alice asked where she was Dana told the truth then pleaded with the writer to go with her. To see Dr. Bradshaw for couples therapy to work out their problems. At first Alice was defiant but when Dana gently related incidents of her behavior, one by one, she broke down in tears. Apologizing as she clung to Dana. Saying she was sorry, she didn’t want to act this way, she hated acting this way, she hated herself even.

    1. so ok – you were totally right – i loved dana’s pov and it totally makes sense and you just rock for the way you make me still love her even though she broke Alice’s heart.
And again, you were right, Jenny is the perfect friend for Alice and Helena and her ‘weirdness’ fits perfectly and is something endearing in this, not off putting as it is on the show.
And finally – the comfort that alice and helena find in their shared experiences, insecurities and needs was just perfect! Loved it – but then again, knew I would! Great job!!!

    2. Hey now… lol. I’ve got nothing against Bagpuss! The show was cool but I’m mildly freaked out by it. Then again, I’m mildly freaked out by lawn gnomes too. Brrr. Lawn gnomes. Anyway, Helena and Jenny like Bagpuss. They just find it somewhat disturbing, much like me. =P

    3. Positively loving this, anyone who takes the time to properly write Helena *and* who writes her so damn well gets heaps of gold stars in my book. =) And I’m even picking up on the joys of Helacious =D Squeee

    4. Thank You! For reasons in no particular order:
      1. For writing Jenny in a way that isn’t about her “bad” weirdss. For actually writing her as someone who underneath all the complexities i still someone who can be kind, and defintely someone can see Alice having a friendsip with.

      2. For Dana’s pov–I danish shipper at heart and will be, damn all season 3 spoilers and what not, and even though this is helacious story at heart, there are still those undercurrents of Danish, which will always be true for me, no matter what happens with them.

      3. For writing helacious in such a way that even I, as a self proclaimed Danisher, can enjoy and even root for. I can only hope (perhaps foolishly)that the writers of TLW will do as much justice.

You are by far my favorite Fan Fic writer on this board–effortlessly weaving stories together that explore connection, love and all the good stuff in between.

    5. I loved this and I’m a little upset that you got four stars considering some of the crap on this board that gets five stars. Dumb fuckers.

Anyway. I already told you what I liked, but I think my favourite parts were getting into Helena’s background and in her head, particularly with her father and the issues she has with her mother and the thing about her running. Ha! I always got lost running cross-country and as I told you, getting lost 13 times is nothing to me because I got lost a lot more times than that. People totally do get lost! And how cute was it that Helena was all fixated and upset that she placed fourth after going a mile and half out of her way? Priceless and so her because she would totally demand so much of herself even at age 15.

And ohh, that last part with the phone call and the dinner arrangements and everything? God.

You’re killing me with Helacious cuteness!

    6. Not content with making us love Helacious, now you’re going to make me like Jenny! This is a great chapter. The insight into Dana: the scene where she watched Alice in the Planet was just painful. I loved the scene at the end when Alice called Helena. Great mix of tension and humour. And, finally, speaking as someone from the UK: don’t knock Bagpuss! (OK, it was weird, what can I say).
