Bike Ride, Life Ride – Chapter 39

Bette and Tina held each other tightly through the night, always having some sort of skin on skin contact with the other.  It was an uneventful, yet restless night. Bette tossed and turned and Tina’s mind was spinning. Although it was insanely difficult, she did not bring up the pregnancy topic, opting to give Bette the time and space she requested to make her decision.  Tina went back and forth through the night with the different scenarios in her head and found pros and cons in any outcome.  The question remained for her; if Bette decided to go through with this pregnancy would she resent the baby?  The donor, no matter who he was, was just that. A donor.  And the mother of the baby is Bette. Her beautiful Bette.  Surely, when she saw this baby and knew it was a piece of Bette, she would fall in love, right?

Tina felt really guilty about some of the things she said to Bette. She remembered back to being pregnant with Angelica and making the choice to inseminate on her own, without any input from Bette. And then she remembered how sweet and kind Bette was to remind her last night that she was a part of this process. Bette never brought up Angelica’s insemination or that Tina did not offer Bette the same respect.  Tina was churning with guilt to the point that her stomach hurt. As much as she was trying to stay still in the bed, she was failing miserably.

Bette awoke and said “T? Honey what is wrong? You are all over the place in bed like you drank ten espressos? Are you ok?”

Tina said “Bette, I know I am supposed to be respecting your space, but I feel really sick to my stomach and guilty about some of the things I said last night.  I feel selfish and awful. I don’t want to plague you with all my feelings, because I know that you have your own to deal with, but in all my selfishness I didn’t ask you last night how you felt. I don’t want to push you, but can we talk some more about this?”

Bette sighed and said “Yeah, we can”.

    1. YES I AM FIRST, FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE I STARTED COMMENTING. I had just poted a change of decision, to not keep the baby, but as Dainty pointed out, let the character lead you. I am very happy with your choice.

    2. It’s a relief to have the decision made. I think it has a good chance of working out with Bette and Tina as parents. As Bette says, it’s an innocent child and not its fault, so more power to them.

    3. I think you did a great job of letting the characters make this decision. I love the way you showed the thought processes that they were both going through. Bette is right…having the abortion may have seemed like the easier way out but in the long run she did the right thing by not only considering her comfort level and Tina’s comfort level. She realized that she is carrying a life inside her….her own child and needed to consider that above everything else.

    4. Ok, so not the decision i think they should’ve made but so be it. Maybe Bette can have a miscarriage or another bike accident….I’m sure there is a way to write them out of having this kid (just a suggestion). Thanks for the update even if the outcome isn’t what i was expecting.

    5. Well we all know, that nothing is ever smooth sailing!!! Maybe a miscarriage in the future or better yet, JODIE BEHIND BARS FOR LIFE in a shit hole of a prison. Thank you for your writing and time.

    6. i am happy with your choice… because when its all said and done… its still a baby, an innocent baby.. that will grow up with love… now they should press charges… and lets hope jody goes away… MERRY CHRISTMAS…

    7. Yes I’m so happy for that decision. I worry for them all but if Bette and Tina continue this type of communication it will work. Having a kid is work and they need to both be there for each other. Great chapter and again thank you for sharing your talent with us all and posting amazing chapters for us to read. Have a great holiday

    8. I think you made the right choice in letting the characters lead you to the decision because you have captured it perfectly. I think this is exactly what Bette and Tina would do and the way they came to the decision is typical as well even though they did seem to have more communication than they have had historically (on the show). I was reminded a bit of their decision to parent Angie together (even sonogram sex – sort of) but what they lacked in that situation is they never dealt with the Candace issue and six months later they broke up even with all the promises and good intentions. Now they are skirting around the underlying Jodi issue. I hope this time they deal with it; being good parents was never their issue it was everything else. I’d be curious to know Jodi’s motive in all this. Did she really think getting Bette pregnant would win her back? or was it just a tactic to break up Bette and Tina? Seems really extreme and bizarre even for Jodi. Also what of the donor – do we know that he’s healthy and having the baby will not cause complications? I’m along with you for the ride – this is very intriguing to me and I’m anxious to see how it all plays out. Happy Holidas.
