Bike Ride, Life Ride – Chapter 32

Bette heard her and started yelling at Tina to hang up.  The last thing Bette wanted to do was be back in a hospital or even spending a few hours in the emergency room.  Tina was not listening to Bette at all at this point, she was listening to her inner voice and the feeling that she felt the night before that something was not right.

Bette was now crying and pleading with Tina that she did not want to go back to the hospital, that the vomiting and the lightheadedness was just due to medications and not serious.  Tina was now crying as well, because she was panicked and Bette was really distressed.

Tina said “Bette, I feel like we need to have you checked out. If  it is no big deal they will let you go quickly, ok? Please don’t be upset with me, baby. I am trying to help you.  Bette would not make eye contact with Tina and was obviously angry.

Just then, an ambulance pulled up and before Tina could get another word in to her beloved, Bette was moved onto a gurney, given an IV of hydration and Tina was told that her blood pressure was low. And she appeared to have low blood sugar.  Tina just nodded and followed them into the ambulance car back. Tina explained to the paramedics that Bette was recently hospitalized after a biking accident and they brought her to the hospital, which was a very short ride away.  Bette was admitted through the emergency room and Tina was back in the all familiar waiting room and triage area.   Bette’s records were located nearly instantly and Tina asked for Dr. Miller to be paged.

After about ten minutes, Dr. Miller came to the waiting area and got Tina and walked her back through the emergency room triage area.  Bette was in a small area once again with a curtain for privacy. At this point she was not faint and her blood pressure had stabilized and since she didn’t have low blood sugar she looked madder than a hornet.  She furrowed her brows in the direction of both Dr. Miller and Tina.

Dr. Miller said “Bette if you missed me this much and couldn’t wait until Physical Therapy, you could have called. You didn’t have to be so dramatic and end up coming through the ER”.

Bette said “I would love to see you in a few days at physical therapy, but my wife has a flair for the drama, so here we are in your ER”.

Dr. Miller said “Bette, Tina tells me you have been feeling lightheaded and  vomiting?”

Bette rolled her eyes and said annoyed “Yeah a little, but it is no big deal. I am just feeling some side effects from the medication. Really, there is no need for all of this. This is ridiculous” and then shot Tina a dagger look.

Tina looked down at the ground immediately and was shifting her feet back and forth.

Dr. Miller said “Bette, let’s just do some quick blood work and check it out, ok? And if it is nothing to worry about, we will call Tina a drama queen, ok?”

Bette said “I honestly don’t think I need all this attention, I just felt a little dizzy. I mean really, this is crazy. Can I just go back to the hotel with Tina?”

Dr. Miller said “Bette, you aren’t going to like this, but I am going to admit you right now. And pending the results we will go from there. We need to make sure there is not some underlying issue going on and that you are ok. I am going to have a nurse come in and take your blood and we will get you moved and once I have your lab reports back I will come see you in your room”.

He turned to leave and then turned back around and said “Bette, be nice to Tina. I mean it. I will bring you some grouchy pills when I see you upstairs in the hospital”.

The doctor walked out and closed the curtain. Bette was glaring at Tina from across the area.  Tina was still as close to the curtain as possible. She knew Bette was furious and was starting to feel guilty that she had jumped the gun.

    1. Thanks for bringing this story back. I was missing it. Lullabelle30, I had the same thought as you did about Jodi trying to get Bette pregnant. Wicked, wicked, wicked!

    2. Poor Tina….even if it turns out to be nothing she did the right thing. She can’t take any chances. Bette could have some kind of infection or something else that would slow down her healing process. I hope Bette doesn’t give her too much grief over this.

    3. now that would be something if bette was pregnant,,, tina would surely kill jody.. maybe thats a good thing… lol.. and bette take a chill pill… tina did the right thing… you should be thanking her and telling your sorry for again throwing up all over her… pps

    4. Great update. Bette needs to stop being grumpy britches because Tina is doing the best she can with an unruly patient. Tina did the right thing to call the ambulance because this is the second time that Bette has gotten sick for no apparent reason. Lulabelle, I cant believe that jodi has tried to get Bette pregnant, jodi hates children and hates being tied down. She wants to be a free spirit and go from one woman to another, she doesn’t even want to be monogamous with Bette but she damned sure doesn’t want Bette with Tina either. We know that much but I don’t think it’s pregnancy that is causing Bette to upchuck for no reason. I think it might be her being everly anxious and nervous about being out and about and not being able to control the situation if jodi does show up. She really has not adjusted to leaving jodi even though she does not want to be with her and she feels guilty about the way it happened. I think also that she is afraid if jodi comes back around her again she will not be able to say no to jodi without Tina being there or that jodi will do something to Tina and Bette would not be able to stop it. In short, she feels unprotected and guilty as hell for hurting jodi. I could be wrong but I don’t think so. Hopefully she does not have some other illness that they don’t know about. Great chapter. Thanks for posting.

    5. Bette is no happy patient but hey she has been thru hell so she is ok to be grumpy just as Tina is ok to want to protect and take care of her at all cost. Now lulabelle30 that would be interesting and I hadn’t thought of that but now that you have mention it wouldn’t put it past JoJO
