Tina tiptoed out of her bedroom trembling as she ran to the thermostat to turn on the heat. She shivered when she saw that the heater was on and the temperature was under 50.
She looked over at her mocha-skinned brunette roommate who sitting on the couch with newspaper wearing like ten jackets. Tina who was barefoot, wearing little booty shorts and wife beater hopped from foot to foot.
"Our heat is out," Bette said looking at her from above her newspaper.
"It’s fucking freezing!" Tina cried.
"Maybe roomie, you should put some more clothes on!" Bette joked.
"Hey I sleep naked, this is a lot already," Tina said.
Bette chuckled and said, "well they’re shutting the lights off tonight."
"What!" Tina cried running to the sofa and jumping under the large blanket Bette had on top of her.
"Yeah unless you can cough up 150 bucks by 5," Bette said as Tina snuggled up close to her. "Your fucking freezing Tina!"
"And you’re warm," Tina said wrapping her arms around Bette’s neck as she squealed.
"Tina! Let go your hands are cold!" Bette said.
Tina giggled and climbed on top of her hearing Bette squeal and trying to push her off.
"Oh come on Bette," Tina said, "I’m cold."
"So you freeze me with you!?" Bette cried.
"Alright, alright," Tina said standing up and taking the blanket with her.
"Hey!" Bette cried.
"Come on we got work!" Tina said scurrying into the bedroom.
Bette groaned and scurried off to her room to get changed. Bette and Tina had been roommates since they were 15 years old. They were both disowned for being gay and they decided to live together. Their friend Shane ran her dad’s warehouse and had given them jobs. They lived in this apartment for 15 years but now it was getting harder to make ends meet. On top of the rent being increased, they also had to pay for college. They were both working overtime to avoid having to move to a smaller place, but things weren’t looking good.
So they dressed hurriedly and had their breakfast in their beat up old truck. Work was a drag as usual and when they got home there was a foreclosure sign on their door.
