Bed of Lies – Chapter 8
“That’s quick right?”
“Yeah, well most of the prep work was done by my assistant while I was away. The prints are enlarged, mounted and ready. We know the lighting scheme. So it won’t take much work to get it set up… will you be at the opening?”
“Of course I will! I wouldn’t miss it…” Tina began to reach out for Bette’s hands, stopping short.
“Bette?”
“Hmmm?”
“About yesterday… I’m sorry that I… I’m sorry I left…” her voice caught, her gaze focussed on the Bette’s hands on the table, hands that were on her yesterday.
“In the morning or in the evening?” Bette lifted her face to look Tina in the eye.
“What?”
“In the morning when you left me in the darkroom… or in the evening when you parked outside the house for ½ an hour then drove away.”
“I… you… but…”
“I have windows in my house Tina; I can see the street from them.” Bette responded dryly.
“I’m sorry.”
“You said that already. Yesterday and today.”
“I know, and I know it’s not enough, but I am”
“For what? What are you sorry for?” Bette tried to keep her voice calm.
“Everything, I’m sorry for everything. That I left, that I keep allowing… I don’t know. I’m sorry that I’m confused. I’m sorry I’m confusing you. I don’t mean to… ” Tina was getting emotional and teary; Bette felt her heart constrict at the sight. She reached out for Tina’s hand but then pulled away before making contact, unsure about what to do. Tina saw the action and smiled through her tears, meeting Bette halfway as they interlocked their fingers.
I am all that I’ll ever be
When you lay your hands over me
“I’m not angry. I hope you know that. I’m not here to make you do something you don’t want. I’m sorry about the darkroom yesterday…”
“Don’t be, don’t… it was… I… don’t be sorry. What happened in the darkroom… that was both of us… I’m not sorry it happened, I’m not, I am sorry I left like that.” Tina blushed.
“I thought we were on the same page, but-”
“We are, we were, we… I don’t know Bette… When I’m near you, I… all I can think about is… but Eric… and I’ve never-” Tina stuttered and mumbled, unable to finish the thoughts in her mind let alone the sentences coming out of her mouth. Bette leaned forward and took Tina’s free hand in hers.

That was just too short. Are you going to let us know what happened in the darkroom, did they at least kiss. Glad Tina decided she needed to leave Eric before she figured out what to do about Bette.
Amazing chapter!!! Glad Tina did not let things keep going with Eric. Thanks PPS
Thanks for the great chapter….you have a wonderful weekend. My wife and I are headed away as well. Much needed getaway. post when you can.
wow that was quick glad tina decided! now to sort out her feelings! :)PPS
Move out!! yay!!!:)PPS!
she needs to put those keys in her purse and sleep it off. kudos for ending it with eric first…but a pimp slap for driving after drinking.
Have a great weekend and thank you for the awesome update. I’ll have to hold you to your promise because I can’t wait for what’s to come. Thanks again.
Glad Tina decided to end it with Eric, no she needs to figure out what she’s gonna do with Bette. So glad she let Bette know it’s not just her feeling things though and Bette handled it amazingly! Now I’m anxious about what’s to come! PPS:)
I pray there’s no cops on the road or maniacs that can run into a less than observant Tina in her inebriated state. She just made a really hard decision to leave someone who presumably loves her. It feels like a selfish act but ultimately she has to take a chance on love for herself. Have a great time & plz post soon cuz I’m really anxious for T’s welfare [wink, wink!!!]
Keep Tina safe as she begins her new life. I would hate to see her lose her chance of a new life because of an accident.
Cool! Let’s move forward!
So I guess we’ll never know what happened in the darkroom….heavy sigh. Good for Tina though, ending it properly with Eric before exploring her feelings for Bette. It’s more reassuring when you know the other person has the same feelings. At least you don’t have to worry about rejection. You can just feel happy, excited, and anxious about what’s to come.
It takes courage to leave a relationship that is comfortable but not working especially if the other person is not abusive but just not working out. Enjoy your weekend. This story rocks. Glad that you didn’t drag out Tina’s mental conflict for many chapters.
Tina’s made her mind up, it seems. Quick and decisive… and not selfish, in my view. You can’t stay with someone, in a one-sided relationship, just to make the other person happy. Awesome chapter, tbp, enjoy the weekend, and thanks for the chapter.
So glad Tina made her decision. She has taken the proper steps, now she can pursue a relationship with one, Ms. Bette Porter. Love the sound of that. Wish life was really that simple. Thanks for posting. Have a great weekend.
Totaly agree with azmama. It does take a lot of courage to walk out of a comfortable one sided relationship, especialy when you know the other party is really into you. Loving your story. Hope you have a good weekend.
i cant wait for bette to find out tina left him and i hope we will see bette love for tina not only tinas feeling, love this stoty
Bad, bad, bad, Tina for driving after she had that much to drink! I’m glad she left Eric..it was the right think for them both even if Eric doesn’t recognize that yet. Wonderfully written chaper TP!
What a delicacy in your writing, TP, I deeply appreciate it – the same way I like the pace and the so rightly way you depict our dear two… The dialogue and subtile interaction between them, following their silent but so revealing interplay in the darkroom, is such a realistic and sweet scene – I love it a lot. I also fully share comments here : Tina’s decision was brave. No, it’s not being selfish realising what is the better road to follow – it’s just very sad for the other one, but that’s life… Even if things wouldn’t develop with Bette (but of course we know – thanks god ! *wink* – that a big love story will begin), there’ll be nothing to regret for it really is the right decision to do : we all have to realise what kind of relationships can make us happy in life. Some of us (and count me in) always knew that only a same-sex one could achieve it, but many others – like your Tina – needed time to feel it. Then comes the other problem of self-acceptation, a process that can take much more time (don’t I know that…). *** I really, deeply love your story and your talent, TP, and I wish you the best weekend with your lucky girlfriend ! Now do you want a perfect example of selfishness ? It’s me, already impatient to get a new chapter and, so, wishing a shorter weekend !! Shame on me ! *grin* Thank you so much for the gift of your story, dear TP. Warmest regards from your delighted reader – A.
Another beautifully written chapter tbp. I agree with everyone else – Tina is so courageous to leave her relationship with Eric; especially when she has no real assurances that her relationship with Bette will even work. She is being driven purely by emotion and instinct. It is rather convenient (and wonderful!) that Tina will be right next door to Bette – how could Shane refuse Tina’s request for temporary residence? I am looking forward to Bette and Tina really talking about their connection. Have a wonderful weekend with the gf!
hi all, thought i’d comment here to say a) thanks for the support and comments, they mean alot. b) something has come up in my personal life that is going to delay the next few chapters. apologies. I will be back when I can. thanks.
i just found this story and have quickly caught up, great, great job with it, can’t wait to see what happens next!!!!!!!!!!!
I am proud of Tina’s decision to end things with Eric and go find her own way. However, I am seriously disappointed in her judgement to drive after drinking so much. I hope she doesn’t hurt anyone (including herself) on the way to Shane’s.
