Bed of Lies – Chapter 8

No I would not sleep in this bed of lies
So toss me out and turn in
And there’ll be no rest for these tired eyes
I’m marking it down to learning

Bette set up her prints around the coffee table and the four of them sat on the floor around it to view the pictures and listen to Bette tell stories about her trip, the places she had seen, the people she had met and the things she had done.

When their food arrived they moved to the dining table so the prints would not get damaged; Bette told them about the galleries that were showing an interest in her work. She had a meeting with the CAC tomorrow. James had already spent the last few months in talks with them about a possible show and it was almost in the bag, this would be to seal the deal. They were all excited; it was always an amazing experience when Bette had a show.

After dinner they moved back to checking out the prints, Bette left them to browse while she excused herself to prep for the CAC meeting. She was distracted, her mind filling with thoughts of Tina and only Tina.

“Hey Tina, I thought you were out tonight?” Eric was watching a game on TV, feet on the coffee table, a bowl of instant noodles on his lap.

“Yeah I got stuck in some meetings and was too exhausted to head out so decided to come home. There’s pasta in the fridge.” Tina dropped her bag and phone, removed her jacket and kicked off her heels before walking into the kitchen.

“I know, I felt like noodles.”

“I’m having pasta; do you want me to heat you up any?”

“No thanks, can you grab me a beer though?”

“Sure.” Tina put a serving of pasta in the microwave to heat up, pulled out a beer from the fridge and passed it to Eric on the way to the bedroom to get changed.

“You going somewhere?” She called out, noticing the packed suitcase in the hall.

“Yeah sorry, I forgot to tell you, I’m off for the weekend – San Francisco, San Jose and Sacramento… if I get time I’m going to fly down to San Diego on the way home too. I’ll be home late Sunday night.”

    1. That was just too short. Are you going to let us know what happened in the darkroom, did they at least kiss. Glad Tina decided she needed to leave Eric before she figured out what to do about Bette.

    2. Have a great weekend and thank you for the awesome update. I’ll have to hold you to your promise because I can’t wait for what’s to come. Thanks again.

    3. Glad Tina decided to end it with Eric, no she needs to figure out what she’s gonna do with Bette. So glad she let Bette know it’s not just her feeling things though and Bette handled it amazingly! Now I’m anxious about what’s to come! PPS:)

    4. I pray there’s no cops on the road or maniacs that can run into a less than observant Tina in her inebriated state. She just made a really hard decision to leave someone who presumably loves her. It feels like a selfish act but ultimately she has to take a chance on love for herself. Have a great time & plz post soon cuz I’m really anxious for T’s welfare [wink, wink!!!]

    5. So I guess we’ll never know what happened in the darkroom….heavy sigh. Good for Tina though, ending it properly with Eric before exploring her feelings for Bette. It’s more reassuring when you know the other person has the same feelings. At least you don’t have to worry about rejection. You can just feel happy, excited, and anxious about what’s to come.

    6. It takes courage to leave a relationship that is comfortable but not working especially if the other person is not abusive but just not working out. Enjoy your weekend. This story rocks. Glad that you didn’t drag out Tina’s mental conflict for many chapters.

    7. Tina’s made her mind up, it seems. Quick and decisive… and not selfish, in my view. You can’t stay with someone, in a one-sided relationship, just to make the other person happy. Awesome chapter, tbp, enjoy the weekend, and thanks for the chapter.

    8. So glad Tina made her decision. She has taken the proper steps, now she can pursue a relationship with one, Ms. Bette Porter. Love the sound of that. Wish life was really that simple. Thanks for posting. Have a great weekend.

    9. Totaly agree with azmama. It does take a lot of courage to walk out of a comfortable one sided relationship, especialy when you know the other party is really into you. Loving your story. Hope you have a good weekend.

    10. Bad, bad, bad, Tina for driving after she had that much to drink! I’m glad she left Eric..it was the right think for them both even if Eric doesn’t recognize that yet. Wonderfully written chaper TP!

    11. What a delicacy in your writing, TP, I deeply appreciate it – the same way I like the pace and the so rightly way you depict our dear two… The dialogue and subtile interaction between them, following their silent but so revealing interplay in the darkroom, is such a realistic and sweet scene – I love it a lot. I also fully share comments here : Tina’s decision was brave. No, it’s not being selfish realising what is the better road to follow – it’s just very sad for the other one, but that’s life… Even if things wouldn’t develop with Bette (but of course we know – thanks god ! *wink* – that a big love story will begin), there’ll be nothing to regret for it really is the right decision to do : we all have to realise what kind of relationships can make us happy in life. Some of us (and count me in) always knew that only a same-sex one could achieve it, but many others – like your Tina – needed time to feel it. Then comes the other problem of self-acceptation, a process that can take much more time (don’t I know that…). *** I really, deeply love your story and your talent, TP, and I wish you the best weekend with your lucky girlfriend ! Now do you want a perfect example of selfishness ? It’s me, already impatient to get a new chapter and, so, wishing a shorter weekend !! Shame on me ! *grin* Thank you so much for the gift of your story, dear TP. Warmest regards from your delighted reader – A.

    12. Another beautifully written chapter tbp. I agree with everyone else – Tina is so courageous to leave her relationship with Eric; especially when she has no real assurances that her relationship with Bette will even work. She is being driven purely by emotion and instinct. It is rather convenient (and wonderful!) that Tina will be right next door to Bette – how could Shane refuse Tina’s request for temporary residence? I am looking forward to Bette and Tina really talking about their connection. Have a wonderful weekend with the gf!

    13. hi all, thought i’d comment here to say a) thanks for the support and comments, they mean alot. b) something has come up in my personal life that is going to delay the next few chapters. apologies. I will be back when I can. thanks.

    14. I am proud of Tina’s decision to end things with Eric and go find her own way. However, I am seriously disappointed in her judgement to drive after drinking so much. I hope she doesn’t hurt anyone (including herself) on the way to Shane’s.
