Art of Love – Chpt 10

“My! It seems your talents encompass many realms,” Barbara commented. “From observing the expanse of this magnificent home, I would have thought you would have had hired-help to perform those burdensome duties.

“As a rule, I don’t consider meal preparation a chore,” Helena retorted.

“Helena is an exquisite chef. As well as painter,” I smiled, untangling our fingers and running my palm down Helena’s thigh. “We have help. But some things Helena prefers to do herself. No one can match her in the culinary arts.”

    “Bette!” Helena exclaimed.

    I looked at Helena.

“Don’t be modest, Sweetheart. You’re incredible in the kitchen,” I said, kissing Helena’s lips sweetly.

“And elsewhere, I’m sure,” Barbara offered with a smile.

I wanted Peggy to arrive. And soon.

Helena patted my thigh and stood.

“Let’s begin the tour. If you’re ready. Where would you like to start?” Helena inquired. “With the piece displayed at Edouard’s? Or upstairs in my studio?”

    Barbara looked at me inquisitively.

“Where shall we begin, Bette?” Barbara asked.

I looked at Helena and detected her apprehension at Barbara invading our bedroom. Although, of course, Barbara knew not where that particular piece was hung.

    “Upstairs,” I said, definitively.

Helena turned to make her way to the studio.

“Let’s go upstairs then,” Helena said. “Please feel free to bring your drink, Barbara.”

Barbara and I arose, and I took Helena’s hand as we meandered our way to the staircase and up the steps. Barbara followed.

At the door to her studio, Helena unclasped my hand and flicked on the light. We all entered. It was dark outside, but Barbara ignored the black of night, instead admiring the wall of windows.

“Dear God, the sunlight must be incredible for you in here during the day!” she exclaimed.

“Indeed, it is. But that’s usually on weekends,” Helena replied. “During the week, I’m painting at night after work.”

“A shame!” Barbara pronounced, walking boldly into Helena’s sacred place to begin her perusal of each canvas, both finished and unfinished.

Several feet away from us, Barbara slowly surveyed the room, determining where to start.

With the Senator’s back to us, I wrapped my arm around Helena, kissed her on the mouth and then whispered into her ear, “Are you okay, Sweetheart?”

    1. OHHHHHHHHHH NNNNNNOOOOOOOOO!!! I came to the end so suddenly that I felt like I was in the twilight zone. You have GOT to post another chapter before 5 a.m. Barbara the Barracuda…..dinner is served Peggy Peabody style!!

    2. Just exactly in what way and to what degree does Peggy know Barbara? I still think this could turn in to a 4-way. Just spare us any Peggy on Helena action.

    3. Barbara the Barracuda and Peggy the Piranha are going to eat dinner together?? Oh, this is gonna be good! Let the Games BEGIN!! Great job, zheese. I can’t wait for the next chapter.

    4. Finished reading all of your chapters by now and I must say I’m really impressed. Your use of vocabulary is so immens that whenever I read a chapter I can add a few new words to my limited one. I love the interaction and playfulness that is displayed in your story. Can’t hardly wait for the conversation which will occur during dinner. I’m now a great fan of your writings so please post really soon.

    5. what a way to begin what will be a crazy day. oh, t his is going to be a great dinner…my God, what will Peggy say. Post soon, don’t know if I can stand it.

    6. You know, Peggy holds all her feelings inside. You never really know what’s on her mind. :) In truth, I have an appreciation for people who just lay their opinions on the line. It’s very refreshing. I guess that’s one of the reasons I so enjoy Peggy’s character. And a character she is…
