All The Fallen – Chapter 8

All The Fallen – Chapter 8

    Dana
drove through her last half tank of gas, before she stopped to fill up on the
way back into the city.  A red sunset
sprawled across the horizon, red and angry, almost as angry as she felt.  The colors feeding her torn soul as her hazel
eyes wandered the sky for some answers.
She was close to violence, in fact.
It matched her mood and her mind set.

Susan Birch!  Christ!  Would that woman ever stop fucking with her
life?  Just because she could?  Why didn’t even matter.  It was the ‘what’ and the ‘how’ that made her
seethe, invading her life like that, not once but twice.  Oh yeah, and the fact that it had probably
cost her the career she’d pursued most of her life.

The one thing she’d always longed for was to be good at something,
    anything!  Tennis had been that
something, that one true thing that she could lose herself in and be the best
at.  She was never the best daughter, the
best in school.  But tennis?  That was a wholly other story.  On that court, she was the best.  In her life, that wasn’t really so, now was
    it?

‘Tonya too,’  that annoying inner voice spoke up. “Yeah,”
she said out loud, “Tonya, too, and maybe
that’s not so bad.”  She clapped her
hand over her mouth, trying to take it back, but it was already out.  Tonya.  Her wife.
Just one more fucked up thing in her life to deal with.

She twisted the gas cap back on and winced.  Her wrist was tender, she wasn’t sure why it
was tender, but it was.  Perhaps it was
all the rough play that she and
    Tonya
had been engaging in over the last weeks.

“So what, it’s not like you’ve got to play your best game
    anymore,” she told herself.
“Subaru won’t give a shit if you lose.”  She covered her eyes with her hand and hid
the hot tears as they started to flow.
    “Fuck!”  She wiped her
face angrily, got back in the car, and pulled onto the highway, driving into a
sun setting on both past and future.

    *~*~*~*~*

Her worst fear was alleviated when Shane
pulled her truck into the driveway and saw Tina‘s
car.  She’d come home to her.  The way Jo‘s
client was playing her, she wasn’t all that sure she would.  The flashes of her imagination conjuring up Tina
in a passionate kiss with the woman kept badgering Shane.  She was happy that the visions had been just
    that, her imagination.
