All The Fallen – Chapter 1 – Two Sides

While Tina and Shane stayed behind to clean up, Jo took the private
stairs up to her quarters above Twilight, resentful that she was leaning on
Carlotta for support, but too weak not to.
The bleeding had stopped but the front of her wife beater was soaked
    with blood.

    Once inside the office, Carlotta
froze at the doorway before taking the first steps onto the floating floor.  Her body spun from the conflicting signals:
her mind was telling her she was stepping out into thin air while her feet
insisted that they were standing on something solid.  She swallowed hard, helped Jo
to her desk, and took a seat on the couch.
She watched as Jo shucked off the bloody
shirt, using the back to wipe the blood from her face, bare chest, and breasts,
and tossed it in the trash.

Why did you do that, Jo? she asked softly.  You might have died down there.

I died a long time ago, Jo
thought to herself as she pulled a clean shirt from the closet and shrugged
    into it.  To Carlotta,
she merely asked, Would that have been such a bad thing?  She turned around and gave Carl
a hard look.  Isnt that what the
    Kindred wants?

No!  Her face went pale.  Ive neverweve never wanted that, Jo.  But.

Danger showed itself in Jos face.  Most of her vampire energy had dissipated
along with the vortex.  Most but not all.  Her heart sank at the realization.

What happened, Jo?  Carlotta asked.  What happened to you and Amy?  What made you?

    Amber flared in Jos
blue eyes, and an iridescent glow crept over her skin.  She took one-step forward.  Carlotta
jumped to her feet and edged quickly toward to door.  But not quickly enough.  Less than one breath passed before Jo
was there ahead of her, leaning against the door.  Carlotta was trapped.

Dont EVER ask me about that again!  Jo
hissed, showing just enough fang to completely unnerve Carlotta.  My life is not your business!  Not the Kindreds business!  Do you understand me?

She leaned in close, tasting the fear, tasting the blood that pulsed in Carlottas
neck.  She felt the cramping begin, in
her thighs, her biceps.  She threw the
door open.  Get out! she screamed and
shoved Carlotta out of the office, slamming the
door behind her.  She flattened her palms
against the door and lowered her head.  She
felt the tears come, and sorrow competed with hunger for her attention.  She had to feed.  And soon.
Otherwise, she might not be able to control herself.
