All The Fallen – Chapter 4 – Damned

    Lara poured herself a
generous glass of Chablis from the bar, and sat back down at her table, still
wondering just what in the hell had gone down here. She’d come over to The
Planet early, with the best of intentions, hoping to smooth things over with Marina.
In what now passed for the clear light of day, she realized her
heavy-handedness had alienated someone who once was a good friend, who stood
for her at a time when she couldn’t stand for herself.

She really hadn’t thought that buying FrancescaMarina
would be able to come up with so much money, still she didn’t know how that had
happened but she had come up with it. Lara still
wondered about that, too, but it wasn’t a question she was entitled to ask. And
    leaving Marina
in the dark on the remodel, well that had just been pettiness on her part. At
the time, it seemed justified. So many things just had ‘seemed’ justified.

Now she couldn’t even recall what all her dark anger at everyone had been
about. Then the soft voice of her mind reminded her what the anger had been
about. Dana, hell yes! But the others? How had
they become entangled in her need for revenge? Was it just because they were Dana’s
family and friends, had that qualified them for her rage? She couldn’t
remember. But she still remembered what she’d done. God, how she remembered,
every small detail was there for her mind to replay and analyze. And regretted,
but it was too late to undo any of it.

    So she understood Marina’s
    feelings toward her. But ….

“Hey, girl, whassup?” A familiar voice called from behind her. Her thoughts
    being cut short, Lara

Lara brightened when she turned around and saw Kit,
coffee cup in hand, approaching the table. “Hey, Kit! Sit down.”

Kit smiled broadly, pulled a chair out and sat
down. “So what’s goin’ on, girl, you look all down.” Kit
said in her own brand of twang.

Lara sighed and took a sip of wine. “I guess I’m
just not feelin’ the love today, Kit, know what
I mean?” She sighed heavily, her own voice picking up Kit’s
    tone.

Kit made a wry expression. “Tell me ‘bout it.
I’m not feelin’ so much love myself these days.”

The redhead’s brow furrowed. “What’s wrong? You and Ivan
    aren’t….”
