Chapter 10: Snake Charmers
Eve focused on wiping down the counter at the Planet. She blew one of her light brown tendrils that feel out of her ponytail and into her eye. Eve was nervous about telling Shane about her health. She just didn’t want Shane to feel sorry for her. She was so engrossed in her thoughts that Eve didn’t notice Shane standing in front of her.
“Hey.” Shane said smiling.
“Oh hey, Shane.” Eve threw the rag aside.
“So you about ready?” Shane climbed onto a stool.
“Yeah, you look nice.” Eve nodded at the white button down shirt, with the sleeves rolled up and a green camouflage long john shirt underneath, which Shane wore.
Shane looked down at her jeans and green puma’s. “You’re kidding right?”
“No I wish I was as carefree as you.” Eve said taking her apron off, revealing the green and black lace camisole with jeans. Black cowboy boots hid underneath the jeans.
Shane choked back a chuckle when she saw the cowboy boots. “I think you are a little carefree, yourself.”
Eve looked down at her clothes. “What’s wrong?”
“Absolutely nothing! You look good, let’s go.” Shane smiled. “You seemed to be thinking about something when I came in. Is everything ok?”
Eve shook the hair out of her green eyes. “Uhm, justI had a hard customer earlier.”
“Oh yeah, I’ve had those before. They’re a pain in the ass.” Shane said walking a head.
Eve sighed and followed her. “They sure are.”
“We better hope that Eve has told Shane. Because I’m going to have a hard time hiding stuff from her.” Zo growled holding the door open for Carmen.
The small blonde was paying the cover as Carmen talked. “You swore you wouldn’t tell.” Carmen said nervously.
“Yeah, Yeah, I know.” Zo took her girlfriend by the hand and glanced around the colorful club. Dark wooden altars that stood about two feet high were used as tables. And large pillar candles were lit through out the club.
“There’s the table.” Zo nodded towards Billie, Jenny, Alice and Bette all sitting around one of the alters on the floor, talking. Alice seemed agitated, her fingers tapping nervously on the table.
