    He takes a gulp of his whiskey.

    The art dealer frowns.

    Eric – Did you know?

    David – Know what?

    Eric – About Bette and Tina …

    David sighs.

    Eric – Your jokes were too real that day!

    David – I apologize, my friend. It was all in good fun.

    Eric – Yeah … I was having fun then … not now.

    David – Well … we win some and lose some, Eric! It’s the game of love! We must learn to take it in stride.

    Eric – We don’t usually lose to a woman, David …

    David – Of course we do! This is LA, Eric, … not Kansas! I’ve lost a couple of women to other women!

    Eric sighs.

    Eric – You’re right … this is LA!

    David – You shouldn’t be too sad! You already have a beautiful lady in your arms! What are you complaining about?!

    He chuckles.

    Eric turns to look at Amanda, who is talking to Andy Stewart and his girlfriend.

    Eric – I shouldn’t be complaining … I just felt blindsided.

    David – No, you shouldn’t! You must move on! Give me her name and I’ll invite you both to my next party!

    The attorney chuckles.

    Eric – Not yet, David! I’m keeping this one close to me for a while … Your parties are dangerous!

    The art dealer laughs.

    David – As you please, my friend! But don’t take too long! Life is short!

     

    Chapter 39  The Girlfriend

    Bette Porter Gallery, main room, night: Tina is admiring the painting Midnight Moon by herself while Meg is nearby talking to Alice, Marina, Brad and Mark. Bette approaches her girlfriend from behind.

    Bette – What do you see?

    They look at each other and smile. The blonde turns to the painting and studies it for a moment longer.

    Tina – I see love … two women in love … and this is why the moon is red.

    8. I fell so far behind in reading this and just caught up! This story brings such a smile to my face and I still love every moment of it! I’m kind of happy that I didn’t remember the whole story so that it could still feel like it was my first time reading it too but I definitely remembered this chapter!
