    Helebette – Wednesday night

    Previously

    “Helena has become a better woman because of her love for you, Bette,” Peggy opined.

    I leaned back. Peggy still held my hand. She stared at me intently, awaiting my response.

    “What say you, Bette Porter?” she pressed.

    I hesitated before speaking.

    “Peggy, I do not plan to hurt Helena in any way. My intentions are completely honorable, I assure you. But your unrestrained concern compels me to divulge to you, even before I feel secure in telling her, that I’m falling in love with Helena.”

    Peggy smiled hugely and patted my hand before letting go and leaning back in her seat.

    “You have answered well. And your secret is safe with me.”

    Chapter 24

    I sighed and smiled.

    “I’m not sure that it’s a secret that will long be kept,” I said. “My heart swells when I’m with her. When I even think about her.”

    “Then what is holding you back, my dear?” Peggy asked with concern. “I shall not reveal your feelings, but what keeps you from telling her? You know how Helena feels about you. What is the source of this fear you’re harboring?”

    “Peggy, we’ve only been seeing one another a few days,” I explained.

    “And?” Peggy prodded me further.

    I hesitated. What was I doing discussing my feelings for my lover with her mother?

    “Go on,” Peggy continued to urge me to speak. She stared at me, seeming to read my thoughts. “Do not let the fact that Helena is my daughter deter you from a conversation about love and sex. The way you two look at one another, the desire and emotion are palpable. It’s obvious you can’t wait to get home tonight and rip the clothes off of each other.”

    I felt myself blush.

    “How many times in your life have you been in love, Bette Porter?” Peggy inquired thoughtfully, strategically.

    “Once,” I answered. “Well, Helena makes twice.”

    “And that first time, how long did it take you to recognize your feelings of love?” Peggy asked.

    I thought back to the first time I saw Tina in my gallery.

    “It was immediate,” I replied honestly. “It was love at first sight.”

    “Ah-ha. And how long to tell her?” Peggy continued her questioning.

    2. Zheese-More than i love Helena and Bette together, i love that Bette can open up to Peggy and discuss how she is feeling about her daughter. Looks like Bette is already daughter in law material in Peggy’s eyes and wifey material in Helena’s……….smooth sailing ahead (I hope).
