A Slow Dance – Chapter 2
"Oh," Tina started, "He should be coming in any moment. I think he had to fix something somewhere. I have no idea."
"Alright." Bette studied Tina’s face for a moment, a small smile creeping along her lips. She asked in a light tone, "So how long have you and Eric been dating, if you don’t mind me asking?"
Tina smiled, walking with Bette into the main gallery. "Not at all. We’ve been seeing each other for about three months now. It was a little awkward at first, and he annoyed the ***** out of me from day one, but Eric tends to grow on you after a while."
Bette tucked her hair behind her ear and glanced up. She noticed Alice staring at her curiously. She could tell her friend was trying to figure out what was going on with her.
All week, Bette had been distracted by what seemed like nothing in particular. Not even Bette could really explain it, but her mind was constantly traveling back to last Thursday, back to her and Tina’s conversation. Back to Tina. A warm feeling would spread through her chest whenever she thought about the blonde, and just when she would start to make sense of everything, someone would interrupt her thought process and the progress she made was forgotten as quickly as it was gained.
Bette looked back at Tina and smiled slightly. "So how did you and Eric meet?"
"He’s an entertainment lawyer, you know. A few months ago there was this problem with one of our actor’s contracts and he was called in to help sort things out.
He was slightly obnoxious, but he’s a complete genius where entertainment law is concerned. So he worked with us on the case, and flirted with me ruthlessly for weeks." She turned to a painting and studied it idly while she reminisced on her and Eric’s relationship.
"I’m not one who usually falls for the flirt, but this was different. Eric was different." She chuckled. "As cliche as it sounds, I felt like Eric was the most genuine guy I had ever met. So when he asked me out, I said yes."
A faint look of discontent crept up on Tina’s face and she sighed softly. Before Bette could ask her what was wrong, Eric came up and interrupted.
