    A chick can dream…

“Tina.  Sweetie, wake up,” Bette said, gently rubbing Tina’s back.

“Dana,” Tina said, sitting bolt upright in the dark room, her breath coming in ragged pants.

“Hey, easy,” Bette said, brushing back the disheveled shock of blonde hair from Tina’s face.  “You’re having a bad dream.”

“Where’s Dana?” Tina asked, switching on the bedside lamp.

“She’s gone.  Remember?” Bette replied, squinting in the sudden brightness.

“Oh my God.  Dana’s gone.  And I didn’t get to say goodbye,” Tina whispered.

“Of course you did.  You said goodbye this morning.”

“No.  I…” Tina looked around the room, suddenly confused.

    “What’s wrong?”

    “Where’s Angelica?” Tina asked.

“Who?” Bette frowned, rubbing her eyes.

“Our daughter,” came the plaintive response.

“Wow,” Bette smiled.  “How much wine did you have with dinner?”

Tina took a deep, steadying breath.  Bette had said something about a dream, but it all felt so real.  Still, as she tried to reconstruct the images that were vivid only moments ago, they seemed to slip through her fingers like water.

“When did Dana die?” Tina asked, biting her lip.

“Die?  Tina, Dana’s in Australia for a tennis tournament.  We took her to the airport this morning.  I was dropping you off at the studio on my way to work, and we offered to swing Dana by the airport,” Bette said patiently.

“You dropped me at Helena‘s studio?”

    “Someone named Helena bought Alphaville?”

Tina reached for the alarm clock on the nightstand and as she did, the gold band on her left hand caught the light.  “I’m wearing my ring,” she said softly.

“You haven’t taken it off since I put it on your finger six years ago,” Bette said, taking Tina’s hand and kissing it.

“And we’re…okay?” Tina asked, nervously tightening her grip on Bette’s hand.

Bette put her arm around Tina’s shoulders and kissed her neck, then her cheek, then her eyes.  “T,” Bette said, leaning in to place a kiss on Tina’s lips.  “We’re more than okay.”

A small smile tugged at the corner of Tina’s mouth and she shook her head.  “Baby, you would not believe the nightmare I just had.”

“Tell me,” Bette said drawing her knees up to her chest and propping their pillows against the headboard.

Tina tried to figure out where to start, but it was all too confusing.  Alice and Dana had been lovers then gone through a terrible breakup.  Shane was in a serious committed relationship.  Kit owned The Planet.  Marina had attempted suicide.  There was some strange woman named Jenny who’d moved in next door.  She and Bette had a baby but then somehow split up.  Dana died.  And throughout the whole thing, there was this terrible, cacophonous music.  Like a soundtrack from Hell.

“T?” Bette asked, bringing Tina out of her reverie.  “Aren’t you going to tell me your dream?”

“I…um.  I think I just want to forget about the whole thing,” Tina said.

“How about if I hold you until you fall back to sleep?” Bette asked, drawing Tina close.

“How about if I give you a good reason to stay awake?” Tina murmured, placing a trail of kisses along Bette’s throat and down between her breasts.

    1. You know, ‘The L Word’ was a high concept. Too bad it has been so poorly executed. Just having you recount the ways illustrates that sad fact. …God.

    2. If only! The past 2 season’s have been a waste of talent and poor writing. There has been very little character development, too many unfinished storylines and please kill that damn theme song! IC must smoke what Whitney and Bobby smoke or else she would realize that 99.99% of the people want B&T together, Dana to still be alive (its possible to have breast cancer and survive), Alice & Dana to still be a couple, Kit with a decent storyline that doesn’t include “baby sis” and poor hair wigs/ weaves, Shane and Carmen to remove the blankets and show they really were getting it, Marina back, Tina who is not a jelly-back and not a bitch either, and please just let Jenny get sucked into one of her stories… don’t get me started on Max. Sorry for the rambling, loved the post.

    3. I have this beautiful bridge stretching all the way to Brooklyn, would you be interested? It was fun while it lasted. A lovely antidote to the IC meatgrinder school of drama.

    4. “cacophonous” LOL …You know, we’ll have direct evidence that EZ reads these pages if S4 contains a new character named ‘F.F. Chick’ who just happens to get run over by a runaway cello… ;-)

    5. Not really a Tibette fan but I liked this. It was really interesting and I liked that Dana didnt die in your story Ilene needs to take advice from you :o)

    6. LOL!!! I totally agree with Biased. If only! Sigh… Glad to see Tina (or anybody for that matter) actually cared for Dana..it didn’t show in the last episode (except for Alice of course). Well, I’m off, I need to decorate my newly bought house in Denialville. ;)

    7. Damn right this is how S3 should end. High-fucking-5 for this chapter, Fanficchick. Please post more often…if you can even get motivated due to the caca that is S3.

    8. i like it so much! i would like this S3 was a bad dream! i hope you continue post we miss your post. this was unexpected! you put a big smile in my face, thanks a lot.

    9. this is what i like to see…thanks FFC, i laughed at the “terrible, cacophonous music. Like a soundtrack from Hell”…this was priceless…you know, i love how you come unexpectedly and deliver a gem…thanks

    10. They way it should be ! …. Someone please wake up and turn off the alarm on S3. Thank you, fanficchick for another brilliant post. I always enjoy your writing!

    11. Hey Dallas made it work, why can’t the L word. I am with Biased here. The writers had taken a highly popular show with believable characters and have turned it into a damn soap opera. Now, I love my soap (GH) but damn at least I know what is going to happen and enjoy if for what it is (just tv). Not this crap that the writers and creator of the L word are trying to jam down our throats. If I was LH or JB I would be thinking that maybe we can stand up to her, and get her to make this right. Both women should maybe think about moving on to other stuff and then really watch what happens when both are gone. (NO MORE SHOW IC). Both of these actresses deserve better treatment of their chacater than what is happening this year. I do not think either of them signed up for this crap. Okay, enough of my ranting like a lunatic. I guess this is what happens when my cat wakes me up at 3:30 am wanting some attention.

    12. I came back to this one to see what other comments had been left. I saw “Dallas” mentioned several times. Did no one here ever watch “Newhart” on CBS? N, not The Bob Newhart Show, but the show from the 80s where he and his wife owned an inn and Larry, Darryl and Darryl often showed up? Yeah, that whole entire show was a dream rather than just a season. What if TLW was a dream right from the start? No Foxworthy, no crazy lady threatening Tina because she used her boyfriend’s sperm, no affair, no Helena, no and definitely no crazyass S3. OR…what if the whole show was really a story written by Jenny and she realizes that it’s total shit and burns it? It’s something to think about.

    13. It’s the best case scenario at this point. Is that the soundtrack from hell I hear? No, it’s just the L Word nation weeping collectively. You’ve made my day. Write us more, please.

    14. What? Are you guys saying that I’m really not having a nightmare…**shaking head** DAMN!!! And I had convinced myself that I bought a house in Denialville..it’s a nice place to live!

    15. Oh, ffc, what a genius you are! Someone finally put into words what so many of us have been thinking. Thanks for this little nugget! It’s made my day!

    16. i could also wish to see your name in the credits at the end of every episode, but unless there’s something that you’re not telling us, that would be a dream as well, huh?

    17. are you planning to write another story ? I hope so. I was totally stuck with the previous ones, you’re a great author, I like your style. please write again :-)

    18. That would have been an amazing explaination for happen for the first three season especially from the time Tina lost the first baby in Season 1 to when Bette kidnapped Angelica in Season 3. Much Thanks FFC.
