chapter 17

“So everything still good with you and your parents?” I ask Michelle as we take our normal seats in Pop Mills Diner.

“Yeah, I guess. My mom wants me to go to some event Sunday.” I pick up the menu while I listen to her talk about her plans for this weekend.

“Wait. So that mean your not going to Aaron’s party?” I ask when I hear her say they leave early Sunday morning.

“No, I’m going to go. I just can’t stay long. I have to be up early Sunday morning.” I nod my head and understanding. “So, is Ashley going with you?” Michelle says and my eyes search around the diner for her, but I don’t see her.

“Yeah, she said she was.” I say and Amber walks up to the table and asks for our orders. “Hey… is Ashley here?” I say ask Amber before she walks away.

“No. She called off.” She informs me before going to place our orders.

“You okay?” Michelle asks breaking me of my Ashley filled thoughts.

“Yeah, it’s just… Ashley called off of work today, witch is weird because she said she was trying to pick up all the hours she can.” I pull out my phone to make sure I have no missed messages or calls.  I don’t.

“Maybe something came up last minute.” Michelle says digging into her pie.

“Yeah, but I told her I was going to come by to see her. I wonder why she didn’t call me to say she wasn’t going to work today.” I tell her getting out of my seat. “I’m a got to the restroom. I’ll be right back.”I walk into the rest and flip my phone open and dial Ashley’s number. It rings till it goes to the machine. I try it one more time before leaving a message. “Hey… it’s me. Um… I see that you called off of work. I just wanted to make sure everything was okay. Call me. Love you.” I hang up and go back out to my table.

It’s ten and she still hasn’t called me back. I left that message at like two something.  I’m not mad more so worried. We’ve been officially together for a week now and everything has been going good. No arguments since we broke up for about four hours. And she’s spent the night the other day and we always call each other. I’m just worried because I haven’t talked to her since last night.
