Within Temptation – (Chapter: 45: Bad news bear)

Ashley: “What? I can always buy more.”

She walked to me with her arms open and I gladly let her wrap them around me.

    Ashley: “I love you, Spence.”
Spencer: “I love you too, Ash.”

She pressed her lips against mine and slowly pulled away.

Ashley: “I will leave you to get settled. If you need me for ANYTHING at all just call me and I’ll be here to rescue you. If Paula gives you a hard time… Well… Maybe I should put a tracking devise on you.”

She smiled and poked my sides playfully. I squirmed and laughed.

Spencer: “Everything will be fine. My dad promised.”
Ashley: “Ok, but I mean it. Any sign of trouble and I’ll be here.”
Spencer: “Ok, I promise to call you if anything happens.”
Ashley: “Call me even if nothing happens. I want to know you are ok.”
Spencer: “I promise. You take such great care of me.”
    Ashley: “I always will.”

She leaned in and gave me one last soft kiss before leaving me to unpack the ridiculous amounts of clothes she forced upon me. I sat on my bed and relaxed. I didn’t feel like unpacking all of that just yet. I was worried about Glen. We weren’t the closest of siblings, but he was upset about something. I decided to go check on him. If he wouldn’t open up to me at least I know I tried. I walked across the hall to his room and knocked on the door. I heard his lock click and the door slowly opened. He was sitting in the dark and I could barely see anything.

Spencer: “You need to turn on a light.”
    Glen: “Don’t.”

His voice was a little shaky. This wasn’t like him at all.

    Spencer: “Is everything ok?”
    Glen: “Yeah, why?”
    Spencer: “You were crying.”
    Glen: “I was not.”
Spencer: “Oh. really? Then what were you doing pouring water down your cheeks?”

Sarcasm usually snapped him out of his bad moods. He was always a playful person.

    Glen: “No. Everything is fine.”
Spencer: “Well, if you want to talk about it you know where I’ll be.”
Glen: “I would say thanks, but there is nothing to talk about.”

I wasn’t buying it, but like I said before. At least I tried.

Spencer: “How has everyone been since I have been gone?”
Glen: “Everyone seems a little tense except for Clay.”
Spencer: “Are mom and dad ok?”
Glen: “As far as I know. Nothing that I know of has happened around here.”

Mom and dad must not have told my brothers about what went on with Ashley and I. That’s probably why they seem so tense.

Glen: “By the way, why were you missing so much school the last week? You weren’t even home.”
Spencer: “I think I hear dad. I’m going to go say hey. Its been a while.”

I really did hear my dad, but I was honestly just looking for an escape. I remember the way Glen acted at the dance when he saw Ashley and I dancing together. I wasn’t about to tell him our family was on the rocks, because I was in love with another girl. He can find out on his own.

    Spencer: “Hey, dad.”

He wrapped his arms around me and kissed the top of my head.

Arthur: “Hey, kiddo! Long time no see.”

I tightened my grip on him. I really did miss my dad. I missed being home with my family. We pulled away from the hug and he had a pained look in his eye.

    Spencer: “Dad, what’s wrong?”
Arthur: “I need to have a talk with you kids.”
    Spencer: “What about?”
Arthur: “ We can talk about it when both of your brothers are here.”
Spencer: “Glen is in his room.”
Arthur: “I’ll go call clay. He should still be with Chelsea.”

About twenty minutes later Clay came walking in the front door. Glen and I were already in the living room sitting on opposite ends of the couch. He took the empty seat between us looking just as confused as we were. Dad came walking in the room and sat in the chair across from us. He then told us everything we had been curious to hear.
