Things Meant To Be – (Chapter: 4)
South Of Nowhere – 2.04 – Things Meant To Be
“Spencer we need to talk about this.” Arthur said as they walked into the house. Spencer kept on walking, she mounted the stairs, and Arthur followed.
“Hey where has everyone been?” Clay asked. He was in the kitchen feeding his hungry stomach. Clay had arrived home to find the house oddly empty, and then, to his amazement, had realized he was hungry.
“Son, where have you been?” Arthur asked. Stopping halfway up the stairs, caught between going down to talk to Clay and following his daughter up to her room. Clay advanced towards him. Clay it was.
“I went for a drive, I got home, and no one was here. I forgot my charger, so my phone was dead.”
“Ahh…” Arthur began as Spencer appeared at the top of the stairs. Arms crossed over her chest. Arthur saw the look in her eyes. Her mother got the same look when she was determined to do something. Like Med School, and getting married the moment she found out she was pregnant.
“We are not talking about this. Who I choose to be with is none of your concern.” Arthur looked up at her. Then back at Clay, who seemed to be upset, but a glow hung around his face. His children were all growing up way to fast; he was beginning to miss the diapers.
“Yes it is.” Arthur said. “Clay could you go into the living room. We need to talk.” Clay flushed. Did his father already know what had happened?
“No. It isn’t.” Spencer reaffirmed. “Hi Clay.”
“Um… Hi.” Clay waved, and then moved off to the living room.
“Spence. Me, you, and your mother are going to sit down and discuss this….”
“Dad.” Spencer began. “I’m tired from being up all night. I’m worried about Glenn. I’m going to bed to sleep. When I wake up, I have every intention going about my day….”
“Well before you do that, we are going to talk!” Arthur stated loudly. “Spence…” He said. Seeing the hurt look on Spencer’s face, “I’m worried too. About all of you, about all of us, about our family. This is a big decision you’ve made on what I think is a whim.”
