The Wheels That Keep Turning – (Chapter: Chapter 2)

“You know my lap is more comfortable.”I smirk.

“Just turn on the show.” She rolls her eyes.

“You can stretch out if you want.” I motion to the unoccupied part of the couch. “I don’t mind.”

“I’m okay.” She says and rests her head in her left hand that’s leaning on the armrest of the couch. It makes her a little closer to me.

“You okay?” Spencer’s just sighed. Who sighs during Grey’s Anatomy? No one! That’s who.

“I’m fine.” She smiles shyly at me. She’s been responding to my comments and we’ve talked about different stuff happening in this episode, so I don’t see what’s wrong.

“Whatever it is, just ask?” I ask after I catch her glancing at me again.

“Why don’t you have an electric wheelchair?” She asks. I have a chair with big wheels that I use to push myself.

“Why, is my old fashion one a turn off to you?” I joke and pause the show. Spencer just stares at me with a blank expression on her face. “I like pushing myself around. It builds arm muscles and keeps me from being lazy.” I say while rolling myself back and forth. “This one is electronic also. I just don’t use it.”

    “Okay.”

    “Was that it?”

“Yeah, no wait one more question.” She stares at me. “Are you pretending this is a date?”

“Naw…” I wave her question off. “We’re just watching TV.” I stop to think for a moment. “We would at least have to be holding hands for it to be a date.” I grin.

“Right.”She glances at the frozen TV then back to me. “What if I told you I wanted to hold your hand but I’m not ready to call this a date.” I raise an eyebrow at her. “This is new to me…”

    “What is?”

    “These feelings I’m having…”

    “Feelings about me?” She nods.

“About you…towards you and other stuff…not just you. It’s all uhg!” She sighs and runs her hands threw her hair. I can tell she’s getting frustrated at her lack of knowing how to describe what she’s feeling. “I’ve never…”

“Hey,” I roll as close to her as I can get. “How about I just hold your hand tonight and we save the emotional drama for another night?”I grab her hand and push play to start the show back up.

“Okay…” She sighs and rests our hands and her lap. “Maybe I can come over next week and watch it with you and Toni?” She peeks at me from the corner of her eye.

“Agh…maybe…” I shrug. “First I got to see how you do with hand holding. I might have to start avoiding your phone calls after tonight.” I joke. Spencer punches me on the arm with her free hand.

“You know you like holding my hand.” I do. I do. I can’t wait to next week. Maybe I can move us on to kissing next week.

    “I do.”

I wonder what Spencer meant by this being new. Has she never been with a girl? With someone who has a disability? There are some many things she could have meant. I guess I just have to wait and see what’s going on in that beautiful head of hers.
