The Wheels That Keep Turning – (Chapter: Chapter 2)

“I have a long day tomorrow.”

“Don’t give me the brush off.” I pout.

“I’m not.” She laughs lightly at me. “I’m giving you permission to call me.” She smirks.

“Who said I wanted to continue communicating with you after today.”

“Do you really want me to answer that?” I just smile at her. “Anyway,” I watch her push off of my car. “I like talking to you. So call me.”

“Toni!” I wheel myself into her room.

“Mmm…go away.” She mumbles and turns her back to me.

“Get up.” I throw a magazine at her feet.

“I just closed my eyes.” She complains.

    “Yeah, like seven hours ago.”

“Shit.”That’s gets her moving. Toni is like a child. But in place of school, you have to get her up for work.

We’ve know each other for ten years. She was there after my accident and she’s here now.  Right now she’s the only constant in my life.

“Do you want me to drop you off today?” I ask when Toni enters the kitchen forty five minutes later.

“Oh…please you just want to see Spencer.”

“And the problem with that is…”

It’s been a month since Spencer and I have had lunch together. I’ve seen her once since then. We talk on the phone every night…well except last night. Last night she said she couldn’t really speak when I called. I know she has a big presentation coming up.

“Are you guys dating yet?” She asks pushing me out of the way in her hast to get to the fridge.

“Not yet?” I want that to be true so bad. The more we talk, the more I like her. I mean she’s quiet, but has these moments where she can get crazy out spoken. She’s dedicated to her job. She’s hoping that working Conner & Smith will kick off her career. Conner & Smith is a home to some of the greatest architects in our city so she’s off to a great start already.

    “Oh…confidence…I like.”

    “Shut up and let’s go.”

“I haven’t seen her all day.” I’m in the waiting area with Toni.

“Well, it’s around the time she goes to lunch.”

“You’re not going to take me?” Toni pouts.

“Not today babe.” I pat her back. “Maybe…” I stop talk when Spencer walks off of the elevator and into the waiting room. I get excited until I see the gentleman following her.
