“Well have fun ladies,” Arthur said heading back to the kitchen with Glen

Ashley smiled at Spencer’s quickness.

“Spencer, I know you are having a good time, but don’t forget it’s still a school night. Oh yeah and don’t forget to bring Chelsea for dinner tomorrow night!”

Spencer could have kicked her mom for that evil little gesture. She knew that she had done it on purpose in front of Ashley. Spencer saw Ashley’s eyes widened at her words nearly stopping her in her tracks. Both girls left as Paula stared at them out of the window, not wanting to talk about this in front her.

“Your inviting Chelsea to dinner,” Ashley said feeling hurt.

“No, I haven’t yet. It’s a long —-”

“But you are going to. How does your mother even know Chelsea’s name? I knew that you liked her. I knew it!”

“Ashley calm down. Look, it’s really simple. My mom asked me if I’ve met other people besides you since I’ve been here. And I told her that I met Chelsea. And then she suggested that I invite her to dinner, so I said I would. I haven’t even talked to Chelsea since I first met her the other day. Besides right now I’d rather hang out with you..”

“So your mom doesn’t want you to see me… Hmmm.. I wonder why…”

“Yeah, how did you know? She asked me if you were gay too?”, Spencer added.

“What did you say?”

“I didn’t say anything. I told her that we’ve just met and are friends. She thought that we were getting too close.”

“Do you think that we are getting too close?” Ashley questioned.

“No, I like where we are. Speaking of that, where are we going? Why did you need to see me tonight?”

Arriving at Ashley’s house, Spencer kept quiet as Ashley had asked during their ride. She knew that her mother may still be in the living room but she hoped that she had gone to bed by now. Opening the front door, all was quiet. Ashley let out a deep breath that in fact her mother had gone to bed. She grabbed Spencer’s hand and led her to her bedroom and shut the door.
