    Spencer sat in her bedroom staring at the ceiling. Her headphones were blasting one of her favorite songs. Her mind needed a break from the day. Thoughts of Ashley constantly ran through her mind. Her kiss was incredible she thought as she played it over and over in her head. It made absolutely no sense that she could kiss Ashley and then have interest in Chelsea on the same day. She had never been so butch. She had always been the chased one, never the chaser. Chelsea was a great, talented girl and obviously pretty straight. Ashley was hot, sexy and definitely one with a big heart inside. Why was she so torn? This choice should be easy.

    “Spencer….”

    Spencer jumped at feeling something touch her arm. It was her mother, Paula. Her music was so loud and thoughts so deep that she hadn’t heard her knock or come in at all. Spencer pulled the earphones out and sat up facing her mom.

    “Mom, hey…I didn’t hear you come in. What’s up?”

    “Spencer, I need to talk to you about something.”

    Is this going to be it? Is she going to come out to me? Brace yourself Spencer. “Sure, what’s going on?”

    “I think… that…you should stop hanging around Ashley.”

    “Huh? Are you serious?” Spencer frowned.

    “I’ve just been thinking and I think that you two are a little too close.”

    “Mom, it’s been like I don’t know.. 3 or 4 days. What are you talking about too close?”

    “The rose this morning. The long hugs. Spencer, is Ashley gay? She seems like she likes you more than as a friend.”

     

    Spencer was stunned to say the least. How would she answer these questions? It was obvious her mom was fighting her own tendencies. She wondered what sparked these thoughts again suddenly. “Mom, Ashley and I are just friends. Please don’t start this. You were the same with Tracy back home remember? And nothing was going on there either?” Spencer lied. Her mom’s gaydar was sharper that hers some days. She held a chuckle down inside.

     

    “Spencer, I just worry about you. I don’t want LA to change you.”

    “Mom, I am the same person that I was in Ohio.” Still gay mom! Still gay!
