    Ashley is in high school and is falling for an older Spencer.

    I couldn’t breathe, or move, or think, or feel. The receiver was just in my hand, and I was waiting for her to pick it up, to speak, to break my heart into a million pieces. Because that’s what this was right? She was about to ruin three ears of longing and loving and lingering and every other word that makes my heart and stomach leap and fold into each other. She had a boyfriend/

    No.

    I hung up the phone and tossed it across the room. It was too late and I was too tired and too in love with her.

    The hone began to vibrate and I buried my head in my pillow to ignore it. My head was spinning, filling with thoughts of Spencer and someone else, some guy. And he didn’t have a face, he was just a blank bulk of muscle and testosterone. Disgusting. I screamed into my pillow. It was all that I could, with the compound exhaustion of being up with Spencer the previous night and performing in two shows that day. What had last night even meant to her? Was it some kind of joke? Some kind of game?

    What had the past three months meant to her?

    My head pounded at this question and I closed my eyes tight. Sleep. I had to sleep. If I didn’t sleep I would die of confusion, or even worse cry. I let my body go limp with worry and nodded off to sleep, my phone buzzing all the while.

    I awoke to pounding at my door. My muscles were stiff, but I flexed them anyway, rising to a sitting position. The banging kept on.

    “Whaa?” I said, my tongue not really awake yet.

    “Ashley,” My Dad said in an annoyed voice and I toppled off the bed. I rose to a standing position and walked over to the door, pulling it open.

    “Whaa?” I repeated dumbly. My dad only raised an eyebrow and ran a hand through his snow white hair.

    “She wont stop calling,” he said knowlingly. I was suddenly awake. “She says she’s sorry.” I took a step back, beckoning him in, but my dad just raised his hand. “She’s on her way here,” he said shakily. My eyes bugged out of my head.
