Sliding Doors – (Chapter: Chapter 4 How to Find her)

    Feburary 14, 2009 10:10 pm PST

Girl: “Did you want me to get you something stronger?”

Ashley: “Weed’s fine for right now, thanks.” Something stronger, something stronger, I don’t know do you happen to have some Advil for this wicked headache, perks, morphine? I’m just sticking with the liquor and weed right now. I have to be good. God help me, I have to be good.

Aiden: “That’s not the Ashley Davies I know.”

Fuck! Where did he come from?

    Ashley: “Aiden, hey.”

I’m at this stupid party. It wasn’t my idea, it was Shelly’s. Being that she’s a popular cheerleader she was invited and being that I’m the most unpopular person at my school, I was not. But she insisted I’d come. Why you may ask? Because “Madison won’t be there so we can totally hookup.” We haven’t really, not in a while anyway. A lot has happened to me and sex with Shelly, or anyone for that matter, has been kinda complicating my “new way of life.”

    Aiden: “How’ve ya been, Ash?”

Ashley: “Oh, you know, same old same old.”

Aiden: “Well, that’s not necessarily true, now is it. Word on the street, you turned over a new leaf.”

Ashley: “Word on the street?” Who talks like that?

Aiden: “All I know is, you were the same old Ash, partying and shit. Then you’re dad dies and you hit rock bottom. Then, well, then you started turning down harder drugs and actually showing up to school.”

Ashley: “Where do you get your information?”

Aiden: “Not from you, clearly. You never call me back.”

Ashley: “Yeah, sorry about that. It’s just…”

Aiden: “It’s just nothing, Ashley. I wanted to be there for you when your dad died and you wouldn’t let me.”

Ashley: “It’s not like we’re friends, Aiden. You stayed with that bitch even after all the shit she talked on me! At school you didn’t even so much as look at me! So I’m sorry that when you started to call after my dad’s death I didn’t run to answer it!”

Aiden: “You’re right, I was an ass. But I was there then, and I’m here now.”

Ashley: “Only because Madison isn’t here! Why isn’t she here, did you get her the wrong Valentine’s present?”
