Separate Lives – (Chapter: Chapter 1)
Separate Lives Ch.1
The days of being locked behind the bars in Larkhall Prison have long been gone as Nikki was able to gain the appeal that she sought and was released with time already served having her murder charged dropped to manslaughter. Although Helen was not in the court room to see the judgement herself, she did get a phone call from her friend Claire, whom has served as Nikki’s solicitor during the proceedings, to share the wonderful news of Nikki’s release. Even though Nikki was too much in shock and the world seemed surreal, she did notice Helen’s absence. Meanwhile, Helen sat at a local pub near the courthouse watching the regional new station to catch a glimpse of Nikki and the confirmation of the judge’s decision. Helen held her breathe as she saw Nikki on the screen and the words that she said were directed to her and for the first time she let her heart listen to Nikki despite her stubborn head. It was that day in their history that Helen and Nikki reunited, and it was blissful to see her on the outside as Helen had inscribed into the book Sophie’s World all that time ago, when Nikki accepted it as a gift. It was a moment in the world, that all seemed to go right.
Helen had ventured to Chix to see Nikki post release only to find her celebrating with Trish and a whole crowd of people she did not know, but she had willed herself to see the lanky dark haired beauty. She needed Nikki to know that she had in fact made a bad decision about abandoning their relationship and their love, that she wanted to return to Nikki, that she was in fact her home. When she caught Nikki’s eye and waved to her and found the woman that she had dreamed of for so long standing before her, she felt like a childish school girl whom had lost her words, noticing Trisha in the background, guarding Nikki with her eyes, she lost her will and decided to be a coward yet again to Nikki. As Nikki stood in awe at being abandoned again, it was Trisha that convinced her to run after Helen. Nikki ran out on the street and felt her world slip further as she saw a black cab drive away, all she could think was that Helen was gone from her life again. Just when she thought the gods were against yet again, she heard the familiar Scottish accent that always made her knees weak say, "Are you looking for someone?" Nikki turned around quickly to see Helen, her Helen.
