    "And I just want you to hold me right now," she whispers.

    I stare at her in shock, and I can’t believe my ears. She never lets me hold her, and when I ask she always tells me no, I knew it was an issue with strength but……. is she really this broken? Is this all my doing?

    She places her hand on my cheek and lets a sob go. "I just want to know you’re here tonight…… I don’t think I could sleep if you left,"

    She is broken, "Shhh, baby, it’s okay. I got you now okay?" I lay down next to her and she lays her head on my shoulder. I hold her close in an akward way because she’s still restrained.

    I she sighs into my shoulder and lightly kisses my neck. The possition we’re in is very uncomfortable for me, but she seems to enjoy it.

    The door opens though and we both look up to see my mother with a key in her hand. She smiles at us and says nothing, just walks over and takes the restraints off of Ashley’s arms. She winks at us and the leaves, no words said. I laugh lightly when I look back at Ashley, her face is unmistakeable.

    "So what about your mom?"

    "Well, you wouldn’t believe me if I told you,"

    "See, you have to tell me though."

    "Well, she had a girlfriend in college but cheated on her to get her to break up with her cause she couldn’t do it and she felt disgusted with herself for even having a girlfriend. Oh, and she cheated on her girlfriend with Ben," I say it as casually as possible, knowing that it would drive Ashley crazy wondering if I’m being sarcastic or not.

    "Are you serious?" she asks, not in disbelief but in concern it seems.

    "Yeah, she told me earlier…… after you had your outburst when they were trying to fix you up."

    "Wow, that’s so sad."

    "Yeah I know, but my mom really wants to talk to you about that and explain to you why she was so hosstile."

    "Yeah," she seems distant. So I kiss her forehead and tell her to sleep. "Listen, I need to make this clear okay?" I shake my head, "This doesn’t mean that we’re okay or that we’re back together or that I’m even reconsidering…… this is a pause from what’s going on……. I just……. I don’t want to jump back into ‘us’ and have something……. a rewind you could say." I kiss her again and tell her it’s okay. "I love you Spencer……. but sometimes it’s just not enough."
