I hung up the phone. What the hell was all that about? She called me and talked to me like we were best friends or something. Weird. I quickly went back to playing piano and trying to come up with some good riffs. But nothing was coming. I was just having a non-creative day. Plus I was looking forward to dinner with Spencer and all that would possibly come after.

Finally I looked at the clock and it was 6:30, time to go home and pick up Spencer. I got in my car and made it to my apartment. I went inside. When I spotted Spencer I lost my breath. She looked absolutely beautiful. She was dressed in a red dress. It looked like one of mine but I didn’t care because right now it looked better on her than it ever looked on me, “Holy shit Spencer, you look absolutely…”

“Amazing?”

“Honestly, I don’t think there’s a word that can describe how beautiful you look tonight.”

“Aww.” She came up to me, wrapping me up in a hug and giving me a quick kiss.

“You all ready Miss Carlin?”

“Yep, let’s go.”

And on that note we were out the door.

All throughout dinner I kept looking at my cell phone to make sure that Mark hadn’t tried calling me. So far, so good.

“Ashley, are you okay? You keep watching your cell phone like something’s up.”

“Huh, oh, nothing. Kelly Clarkson called me earlier today; she was worried about how her album sales were going to go. When we hung up she was still kind of on edge.” That was a total lie.

“Are you worried about record sales?”

“Not really. She has to be one of the best recording artists ever in history. I have no doubt that this album is going to go platinum.”

We finished our dinner and I tried my best to not think about what I could possibly come home to. Spencer was either going to walk in on the most romantic moment in a long time, a burnt down apartment, or nothing at all. I just hoped that it wasn’t the last two. When we pulled up outside my apartment complex I scanned the area for Mark’s car. But it was nowhere to be found. So I figured that was a good sign. As Spencer and I made our way to the building I took her hand in mine, giving her a loving smile. When we got to the door I offered her the key, “Here, you unlock it, I have to check my phone.”

She gave me an odd look and then proceeded to open the door. I pretended to mess with my cell phone. When she opened the door and looked in I heard her gasp. All I could think about was that I hoped the apartment wasn’t on fire. And luckily, it wasn’t. Mark had actually pulled it off for me. The living room was lit with candles of all shapes and sizes and then there lying on the couch was the dress. Spencer looked down, tears in her eyes, “Oh my god, you…you went back for it?”

I smiled and walked up close to her, “Yeah, that night that you stayed in the bedroom almost all night writing I went and bought it. I want you to wear it to the dinner next week.”

She picked up the dress, “Oh my god, Ash you shouldn’t have.”

“I wanted too. And I told you that good things come to those who wait.”

She was holding it up to herself, “How do I look?”

“Hmm…only one word comes to mind.”

“Which is?”

“Hott!” I walked up to her, placing my hands on her hips.

“Well yes Miss Davies, I am.” She planted a kiss on my lips.

I stopped, remembering something, “Wait, wait…I’ll be right back!” I ran into the kitchen grabbing the carton of strawberries that I had bought yesterday, “In the spirit of no bake goods.”

“You have to be kidding me!”

I took a bite out of one of the strawberries and then offered it to Spencer. But just as she was getting ready to take a bite I eased it away, teasing her until she came into contact with my lips. Enveloping them in an all  passionate kiss that was all too sweet to resist.
