    Past Perfect – (Chapter: 2)

“I don’t think Aiden would do that.”

She looked away yet again, “Yeah well, you didn’t think Aiden would do a lot of things.” She stood up from the couch.

    “That’s not fair.”

She turned around in the doorway, “Well, I don’t really feel like being fair right now.”

I wanted to follow her up the stairs. But I didn’t exactly know what I would say to her. I knew what she was scared of because I was feeling it too. She was scared of losing everything that we had finally built with one another. The biggest part of that was the baby.

I would never lose my child. Granted, she wasn’t exactly mine. But no matter who told me that she wasn’t my blood, I knew in my heart that she was. If Aiden would try to take her away from Spencer and me then I would fight until I was almost dead to make sure that Jesslyn stayed in our custody. The thought of Aiden scared me now. I didn’t know him. I didn’t know what he was capable of. And I was just now realizing all of this after I made the mistake of giving him all of my contact information.

    “Ash? Ash, are you okay?”

I looked up from the dining room table. Madison was sitting beside me. We were supposed to be planning out the tour. But all I could think about was how much I was dreading a phone call from Aiden, “Huh? Oh…yeah.”

“Are you sure, cuz you seem a little occupied somewhere else?”

    “Well, it’s Aiden.”

Madison’s lips formed into a sneer, “What about him?”

I took in a deep breath, “Spencer’s afraid that if he finds out Jesslyn is his that he’ll try to take her away from us.”

“Can you blame her? Don’t get me wrong Ash, Aiden’s a nice guy…sometimes. Do you remember high school? He didn’t care about who got hurt on prom night. He didn’t give two shits if he tore Kyla, or you, apart. And he sure as hell didn’t care if he completely obliterated Spencer. He can be an asshole.”

“I know. It’s just…he has a wife and a child of his own.”
