Paradise Stolen – (Chapter: One: Bliss)

She didn’t hesitate to correct him, her jaw hardening a bit in expectation of a possible rebuff, “She’s great.”

David hadn’t expected the response he got and was made quiet by surprise for a moment or two. His face progressed from surprise to disappointment to arousal in what seemed like seconds. Seeing the final stage settling in his now glinting eyes Spencer stood up abruptly.

“Well it was nice meeting you.” She spoke quickly, gathering up her dog’s leash.

“If you ever get tired of-“ David started but Spencer stopped him with a surprisingly hard look.

“Don’t.” Was all it took to get him to shut his mouth, deciding to swallow his words instead. She nodded and turned, jogging down the loop back towards her house. She looked back once to see him standing at the top of the hill, watching her form on the pavement with his arms crossed. The silhouetted figure sent a small chill down her back and she moved at a faster clip from there on.

When she arrived back at the front door she was sweatier than usual, her breathing hurried and sloppy. She looked down the street behind her, still feeling paranoid although she felt a little silly now that she was home. Opening the door the dog and owner pair returned triumphant from their run. Spencer moved for the shower, smirking a little at the sleeping form that had yet to move. When she stepped under the warm downpour she thought of the look in the strangers eyes. It was like some sort of light had turned on, like a pin had fallen into place. Creepy was a good word for it.

“Good morning.” The voice made her jump, although as soon as she registered the tone she knew whom it belonged to. She was smiling already as she turned to face the other girl, heart still racing.

“Look who is up.” The blonde remarked, laughing as she tugged the darker haired girl beneath the water with her. She looked half asleep still, her chocolate eyes not completely open.

The girl smiled in return, taking in Spencer’s form appreciatively before shrugging, “Some things just can’t be resisted.”

Their lips met then, familiar and just right. That feeling of fullness welled up again and Spencer tried to remind herself never to lose this. Things progressed as they can be expected to do (I won’t go into detail out of respect for privacy, you understand) suffice to say that it was a long shower. At its conclusion they were stumbling out of the shower, laughing loudly.

“I think I pulled a groin muscle Ash.” Spencer complained through her laughs, pulling a towel around herself.

“I’m sorry, but those are the risks of riding the Ashley train. You know this.” The brown haired girl teased, waggling her eyebrows as she mimicked Spencer’s movements. They walked together into the bedroom, digging around their shared closet for clothes to wear. Everyone should be so lucky as to be in love with someone who is their size.

They dressed in satisfied silence, occasionally meeting eyes and staring warmly at each other. Spencer was ready first, Ashley still preoccupied with exactly what outfit she’d be adorning this afternoon. The blonde walked into the kitchen, pulling out the cereal and the milk and filling up her favorite bowel. She was humming to herself when she glanced out the kitchen window at the street, her eyes catching the glint of sunglasses on a familiar looking face across the road. A car was parked on the curb opposite the home, the window rolled down and a face looking intently in her direction. Her voice caught in her throat as she recognized the face, just in time for him to roll up his window and pull away. The man from the park, David, it had been him she was sure.

Ashley watched her freeze up, her brows arching together with some concern, “Everything okay Spence?”
