Paradise Stolen – (Chapter: One: Bliss)
They walked for a moment to get warmed up, the dark dog distracted with his more basic needs. Soon they were moving at a good clip, settling into their usual rhythm as they moved down several blocks towards the park. Her breathing was steady and constant, her legs rejoicing in the easy motion. When they reached the hill the burn of lactic acid in her muscles began to set in and she tucked her head, charging up the incline. At the top she slowed, taking a seat at her favorite bench to watch the sun climb over the skyscrapers of Los Angeles. She sat and took stock of her life, this amazing feeling of fullness seeming to well up from her chest.
“Is anyone sitting here?” A male voice inquired, pulling her from her happy reverie and she looked up to see someone was talking to her.
“Here? Oh no.” She spoke quickly, a smile coming easily to her face because without realizing it she’d been smiling already.
“My name’s David by the way.” He said as he sat down, patting her dog on the head as he tried not to sound as out of breathe as he was.
“I’m Spencer.” She introduced in her friendly way, extending a hand to meet his without any hesitation. He looked taken aback for a moment, marveling at what seemed like an angel (unbeknownst to her of course).
The oblivious girl thought little of the man next to her, eyes drifting back towards the skyline as her mind continued to circle her previous train of thought. Again though she was tugged away from the comfort of her brain by the awe struck man, “Excuse me, Spencer?”
“Yes?” She replied, turning her head towards him with her face blank of anything but curiosity.
“Do you have any plans today?” He was red, eyebrows pushed together into an almost pleading expression.
She blinked a couple times, surprised someone would want to hit on her when she was sweaty and in baggy track pants. She smiled sympathetically at him, looking away before meeting his eyes, “I’m sorry, I’m seeing someone.”
“Is he a good guy?” The man inquired, one eyebrow lifted speculatively. He’d already embarrassed himself; he might as well really go for it. There was no way Spencer could have known what a soft spot he’d always had for blondes. Especially the sweet ones who sat alone smiling beautiful smiles to themselves.
