Nowheresville – (Chapter: In A Far Country: Chapter 10)
"Spencer…" someone says softly tapping my shoulder.
"What?" I respond dismally.
"I want to talk. Is it ok if I sit here?" says the person I now recognize as Aiden. He sits not waiting for my reply.
"Well go ahead you’re already wasting my time!" I snap at him.
"Listen, I-I um… wanted to ask you about… that day at the party in August." he stammers trying to gague my temper. I stay expressionless.
"Well ask." I say impatient for him to leave.
"What happened after I left? Was that boy ok? Where’s Ashley?" he says still watching me. At the sound of her name fury ignites in the pit of my stomach. Thunder bangs and fog rolls in. I jump on Aiden, my hands like claws, pinning him to the ground.
"DON’T YOU EVER SAY HER NAME AGAIN!" I snarl. Fear takes over as Aiden starts to cry. I get up and step over him going inside to the bathroom. I lock myself in a stall as I begin to shake. I had been numb to the gaping hole in my heart and the coldness in my soul for a month now and thanks to Aiden I started to regress. I heard more muffled thunder and some screaming. I tried to block it out. Rocking back and forth with my feet on the toilet seat I clawed at my head. Make it stop! I can’t take it! Go away! GO AWAY! I succeded in suppressing some of the enormous pain in my skull. I decided to go back outside to see what everyone was yelling about. I pushed open the door and there on the basketball tarmac was a spinning vortex. A tornado! I made a tornado! I pointed my finger at it dragging it to the right, then the left. I moved it close to a bench, which it devoured. I pointed down and it made a hole in the ground. I looked at the basketball tarmac again and knew what I should do. ASHLEY. I carved her name out into the tarmac. I brought my left hand up and opened my right. I slowly squeezed them together pressing the tornado slowly, I smushed it out of existence. Then I pulled in some fog, got on my bike and went to the creek.
